Job Description

At Organigram, we rely on an accurate financial system to drive business forward. The Financial Controller report to the VP Finance & Accounting while also working directly with leadership team and directors from other departments. The Financial Controller will be responsible for leading the Moncton N.B. based Finance team with providing accurate and timely financial information. Key responsibilities will include managing the organization’s monthly financial reporting process, including preparing financial statements and reports and support documentation and reconciliations. They are responsible to develop and maintain corporate accounting policies, internal control development, and remediation to ensure SOX compliance. They are also the lead contact with the external financial statement auditors’ fieldwork team.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Develop and communicate accounting policies, and procedures. Design and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) to remediate any identified internal control deficiencies while ensuring best practice policies are developed and adhered to
  • Proactively manage Moncton relationship with external auditors including the schedule, prepared-by-client (PBC) requests and act on follow-up items, including working papers to assist tax compliance
  • Work with the Internal Audit (“IA”) Department on the identification and assessment of key financial controls and their remediation of any identified control deficiencies or best practice recommendations
  • Provide supporting documentation for other members of the Finance team, as needed for Financial Statement preparation, internal and external audit purposes
  • Review the periodic adjustments to inventory and biological assets per IAS 41. Work closely with Sr. Inventory and Costing Manager on inventory and costing matters
  • Ensure filing of annual surveys from Stats Canada
  • Lead preparer of first draft for Finance Department’s G&A budget
  • Manage 6 direct reports and a team of 26 total staff
  • Supervise the accounting team, reviewing team’s output and working collaboratively to achieve departmental goals and regulatory control compliance.
  • Ensure quality financial information and data accuracy is used by the business for decision-making and that potential risks and opportunities are anticipated and understood
  • Participate in operational improvement programs in partnership with key operations managers, including inventory management initiatives
  • Ensure there is proper support for the monthly financials through the preparation and review of balance sheet reconciliations, as well the journal entries in accordance with corporate control environment
  • Work with the Assistant Controller in meeting with senior directors of other departments to review monthly expenses.
  • Assist with any special projects or ad-hoc requests from the Chief Financial Officer or senior executive team (“SET”)
  • Manage accounting operations for business units ensuring adherence to IFRS accounting standards and disclosure requirements
  • Support implementation of new Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system (Microsoft Dynamics 365)
  • Work closely with VP Finance and the AP Supervisor and Treasury Manager - Banking for the disbursements cycle and related banking transactions (including the detailed review of the underlying support for all vendor payments)
  • Ensure completion, filing and payment of tax matters, including: GST & QST (CRA), PST (BC, SK, MN & QC), excise tax (CRA), 2.3% health tax levy (Health Canada), income tax filings for all companies (annual), payroll related remittances (CRA), ON Employers Health Tax (OHIP), workman’s compensation (several Provinces), health and dental (MBC), RSP (Manulife), etc…
  • Ownership of all processes and outputs linked to monthly, quarterly and annual consolidated financial reporting, analysis, commentary and reviews
  • Support in coaching and developing the Finance team, and proactively engage with rest of the company’s stakeholders
  • Work with the VP Finance and Director of Financial Reporting in the assistance of the corporate accounting team’s preparation and analysis of the quarterly and annual external consolidated financial statements, disclosures and accounting policy memos
  • Comply with local, provincial, and federal tax reporting requirements and filings
  • Oversee the receivable, payables, payroll, general accounting and inventory teams to provide direction for their day-to-day work while reviewing key reports and entries
  • Ensure month-ends are completed by the 10th working day of the following month


Qualifications


  • Must be able to work in the Moncton office
  • CPG or Manufacturing experience not required but helpful
  • 8-10 years in a Senior level Finance role
  • CPA
  • Experience managing a large Finance/Accounting team
