The Opportunity

As a key member of the Data Enablement and Governance (DEG) function this engineering role is responsible for working with a team of analysts and engineers, engaging, and mobilizing global partners to ensure that data governance practices are embedded into key processes.
Responsibilities
Engineering- Data Governance and Management
  • Design and build APIs to support bulk imports, updates, notifications, and governance of data assets across the ecosystem.
  • Embed automated data quality monitoring and remediation into data ingestions and design standardized processes for consistency across teams.
  • Hands-on experience in reporting, data and analytics use cases, leveraging cloud technologies
  • Improve existing structures to enable self-serve options for business users
Strategic Data Governance
  • Engage partners across the segments/Business lines to ensure data governance principles are applied across their use cases, and to drive adoption of standards, including (but not limited to) gathering and managing metadata, identifying CDEs and associated data domains, and personas
  • Promote a data-driven culture through data literacy programs and communication
  • Find opportunities and contribute to the development and roll-out of governance policies, practices, and standards
  • Drive POCs to enable new and/or improved capabilities within the segment – data quality, access policies etc.
  • Collaborate with Data Owners, Custodians and Stewards to ensure they understand their roles and responsibilities, providing advisory guidance and support to ensure Data Governance accountabilities are understood
  • Support, coach, and lead engineers and analysts in adopting standard methodologies to support strategic data governance.
  • Engage Architects in the integration and enterprise-wide use of Data Governance tools
Data cataloging and inventorying
  • Ensure improved user experience on the data catalog to drive adoption across the segment, through technology-based solutions and user-friendly documentation to support self-serve
  • Own the inventorying of raw and curated data sources and data elements, solving technical issues and surfacing risks, any change management requirements to streamline the process
  • Enable view of lineage using a variety of tools
Access Governance
  • Maintain and streamline internal tools used to lead and monitor data shares and accesses
  • Contribute toward the implementation of access policies across the data ecosystem
  • Classification of datasets in alignment with internal standards and policies
Measurement and reporting
  • Support in the design and measurement of meaningful KPIs to showcase the progress and value enabled for the organization
  • Build automated dashboards to report on these KPIs on an ongoing basis

What We Are Looking For
  • Experience performing root cause analysis on internal and external data and processes to solve and solution for issues
  • Experience in Data Management, including Remediation, Quality, Data Analysis and Remediation
  • Hands-on experience with Azure Purview (highly desirable), or similar Data Governance tools
  • Solid understanding of and experience with SQL, PowerBI, Python or R
  • Experience redefining / curating data and building reports with the data
  • Experience with Agile processes
  • At least 5 years of relevant work experience in Data and Analytics, Information Technology or Business Analysis roles
  • Academic qualifications in Data & Analytics or STEM discipline a combination of experience and education
  • Previous experience of working in a Financial Services Organization
  • Good knowledge of and experience with Azure tech stack including Purview, Azure Data Lake Gen2, Azure Synapse, Azure Data Factory and Azure Databricks
  • Experience with tools such as GitHub, Jenkins, and Azure DevOps to configure and build CI/CD pipelines
  • Experience with collaboration tools like TEAMS, JIRA, Confluence

Salary & Benefits
The annual base salary for this role is listed below.
Primary Location
Toronto, Ontario
Salary range is expected to be between
$89,950.00 CAD - $167,050.00 CAD

The actual salary will vary depending on local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training. Employees also have the opportunity to participate in incentive programs and earn incentive compensation tied to business and individual performance.
