Job Description
Are you passionate about culture, the arts, natural history, and science? Are you keen on how these elements aesthetically come together to tell the many stories of humanity? Then consider a career at ROM.
POSITION SUMMARY:
As a Retail Store Sales Representative at ROM, you'll be a valuable part of our team, ensuring the smooth operation of our store on a daily basis. Your main responsibilities will include helping members, visitors, and shoppers choose the right products and ensuring their payments are handled accurately. You'll also play a crucial role in helping to maintain attractive merchandise displays that align with ROM Retail guidelines, while ensuring items are safely packaged for customers. In addition, you'll warmly greet customers and assist with managing the Cash Desk lines when needed. Providing information about the ROM galleries, merchandise, and offering directions within the museum will also be part of your role. It's important to stay updated on current exhibitions and ROM retail products, actively promoting them to our visitors. Above all, you'll create a welcoming atmosphere in the store, authentically representing the ROM's brand through exceptional retail sales and service.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Efficiently and professionally handle customer purchases, ensuring excellent customer service throughout the transaction process. This includes processing a variety of products and payment methods with care and accuracy.
  • Help to maintain visually appealing and well-organized store displays. Regularly clean and tidy store fixtures, and promptly report any product shortages or issues to the Assistant Manager for quick resolution.
  • Actively promote a seamless shopping experience, highlighting the benefits of our products and membership opportunities to enhance visitor engagement and satisfaction.
  • Provide visitors and shoppers with detailed information about our retail products and museum galleries. Emphasize the ROM's unique brand and captivating stories. Refer concerns or complaints from customers and escalate unresolved issues to the Assistant Manager for prompt resolution.
  • Participate actively in sales, customer experience, and general retail training sessions and team meetings as required.
  • Welcome visitors and shoppers with a friendly attitude, especially during busy periods. Ensure that cash desk lines are well-managed, guiding visitors accurately and maintaining an organized and smooth flow.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Excellent verbal communication skills in English. Proficiency in a second language, especially French, would be advantageous.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts during the day and occasional evenings. The position requires availability for flexible hours, including evenings, holidays, and extended shifts during busy periods. Attendance at staff meetings held before and or after operating hours may be necessary with proper notice.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills, including the ability to effectively inform visitors and shoppers and represent the ROM's brand through retail sales.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in a retail, hospitality, tourism, customer service, or sales role. Exceptional customer service skills are essential, and the ability to uphold the ROM's customer service standards.
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required. Certification in retail, hospitality, tourism, or customer service would be a valuable asset.
  • Comfortable working in crowded environments and skilled at handling public inquiries and basic complaints with tact and diplomacy.
