Job Description

Our client requires an experienced Payroll Manager to fill in for a person on extended leave. Reporting to the Finance Director, the Payroll Manager will oversee an Interim Manager and a team of four Payroll Specialists. So, we are looking for previous leadership experience. This is a union environment and requires previous union experience. Additionally, we are looking for experience in ERP systems and a mindset that identifies areas for process improvement.


Responsibilities:

  • Reporting and monitoring of payroll and benefits costs
  • Perform other duties as required.
  • Managing, planning, designing, developing, and evaluating in-house payroll systems.
  • Plans, assigns, and directs the activities of the Payroll Services team, and supports the Payroll Supervisor in managing the human resources assigned to the Payroll Services department.
  • Providing comprehensive payroll services to the employees and stakeholders


Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated ability to lead and support the work of others.
  • Experience in business workflow design and business process improvements;
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or similar field and completion of a recognized professional accounting designation (CPA) and/or a recognized Certified Payroll Manager (CPM) designation
  • Demonstrated management experience at a mid to senior level in a large business or post-secondary educational setting including experience in supervision and administrative management.
  • Demonstrated decision-making capacity together with an ability to ensure effective decision-making within a collegial environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to model appropriate professional, ethical, and collaborative behaviors consistent with the responsibilities of this position.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply policies and regulations.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills together with proven experience in resolving conflict and ability to work in stressful situations.
  • Five years of progressive experience in payroll, preferably in a unionized environment.
  • Excellent planning, organizational, and administrative skills.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered
  • Extensive knowledge of payroll regulations and issues of compliance.
  • Demonstrated knowledge, ability, and experience in the design, development, management, and maintenance of data collection and payroll systems in a computerized environment, including the ability to troubleshoot issues associated with payroll information systems.
