Manufacturing Production Engineer / Specialist

Ballard’s Manufacturing Engineering Team has a position available for a Manufacturing Production Engineer in our Burnaby facility. The successful candidate should have a track record of developing and implementing new processes. Experience in process design and continuous improvement projects using tools and methodologies such as Lean Six Sigma, QFD, FMEA, DOE, SPC, and Error Proofing is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Review assembly drawings and test specifications, and markup feedback to design team.
• Design, document, and implement new manufacturing processes for new products.
• Carry out FMEA analysis, and produce process documents (Process Flow Diagram, PFMEA, Control Plan, Work Instructions, and Checklists).
• Identify design improvements for DFM/DFA and communicate effectively back to design team.
• Identify and carry out projects to improve existing manufacturing capability, yields, and capacity.
• Design floorplan layouts, and commission new or modified assembly areas.
• Design, source, and validate tools, jigs, fixtures and test equipment (include drafting requirements, RFI, RFQ, conducting GRR and time studies).

Requirements

• CAD experience is an asset (preference on experience with Creo software)
• Experience with IATF16949 and VDA 6.3 requirements
• Organized and able to balance multiple competing priorities
• Must have bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Manufacturing Engineering
• Strong knowledge base in DFMA, as well as understanding of system (engine) components (mechanical and electrical)
• Tenacious on seeing assigned tasks done without losing focus
• Collaborative team member willing to work with others to complete the tasks
• Experience in the use of change management systems
• Effective written and verbal communication skills
• A driven team player, who is willing to go above and beyond
• Must be experienced with technical writing of process documents (PFMEA, Process Flow, Control Plan, Work Instructions, and Checklists, etc.)
• Analytical thinking and problem-solving methodologies
• Leak testing experience is desired
• 3+ years of experience in an assembly production facility
