Job Description
Welcome to Newcrest!

Newcrest is one of the world's largest gold mining companies. As a global business, we aim to create a diverse and inclusive environment where everyone feels safe, valued, and supported to bring their whole unique self to work.

We recognize that our different backgrounds and perspectives help us find better ways to: solve problems; attract and retain the best people; explore, develop, and produce more gold safely and profitably; and help make Newcrest a better place to work.

The Brucejack Mine is an operating underground gold and silver mine and is considered one of the highest-grade operating gold mines in the world. It is located 65 kilometers north of the town of Stewart in northern British Columbia.

The Opportunity

We currently have an opportunity for a Production Engineer to join the Brucejack Mine in Northern British Columbia.

The Production Engineer supports mine operations team at the Brucejack Mine with the development and execution of the mine plan and underground operations. The Production Engineer’s key responsibility is to track and coordinate underground work with both the technical services and mine operations teams to ensure the successful development and execution of the short term mine plan. The incumbent is also responsible for supporting underground projects, QA/QC programs, key performance indicator (KPI) data collection and reporting to support safe and efficient mine operation.

The Production Engineer will also be required to evaluate the operational performance of individual and or entire mining processes, looking for productivity and cost opportunities, making comparisons to other alternate equipment or processes where necessary.

Perform the following to support the development and execution of the short range mine plan:

  • Assist with implementation of underground standards and QA/QC programs, including for production drilling, ground support and mine services.
  • Critique costs and operational practices of all mining areas, making recommendations for changes and/or improvements.
  • Complete field inspections to identify required work for upcoming areas.
  • Track, prioritize and coordinate weekly underground tasks including backfill, ground support, rehab, and miscellaneous scoop work.
  • Communicate with mine operations and technical service teams regarding the status of underground activities and priorities.
  • Fill in for Mine Captains and Underground Mine Supervisor roles when necessary.
  • Track operational performance and provide recommendations by collecting data and generating key performance indicator (KPI) reports.
  • Support the creation of yearly budgets and submit purchase requests for operating and capital items for the mine operations department.
  • Conduct regular field inspections to ensure work is being done safely and in accordance to Newcrest standards.
  • Deliver daily updates at morning meeting to communicate and/or clarify planning activities.
  • Support underground projects including battery electric vehicles, mine services, safety initiatives and capital projects.
  • Conduct other activities to support safe, efficient, and successful underground operations.
