Job Description

Key Responsibilities:


The Operations Manager is responsible for the entire manufacturing process, overseeing all manufacturing related activities from the arrival of the materials to the manufacturing floor to the point at which the finished goods are delivered, including customer follow up and satisfaction.


Principal Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for continuous performance and profit improvements of products, programs and processes within the company structure.
  • Create a working environment that fosters continuous performance improvement within the organization and emphasizes teamwork, safety, and welfare of all team members.
  • Oversee all manufacturing operations assuring proper deployment of resources and appropriate production planning to meet customer needs.
  • Identify and develop new business opportunities to ensure continuous growth of company.
  • Liaise with authorities having jurisdiction (i.e. Transport Canada, FAA, Health & Safety Inspector etc.)
  • Liaise with existing and new customers as required.
  • Plans and monitors procedures and activities related to product development and production delivery to ensure the success of every project.


Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Achieves Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost performance goals which include daily management of key metrics: Safety, Quality, Cost of Poor Quality, Past Due and labour productivity.
  • Supports overall business objectives by working cooperatively with other personnel.
  • Assist Purchasing in specifying requirements to sub-contractors and processors to ensure conformance to customer specifications.
  • Participate in contract review and development of manufacturing process plans and discuss these with customers in conjunction with Manufacturing Engineering as may be required.
  • Drives productivity through relentless focus on development of lean initiative strategies to continuously improve production KPI’s.
  • Prepare monthly reports to upper management.
  • Develops personnel through Career Development, and regular coaching, ensuring future company objectives are achieved.
  • Checks on the effectiveness of Operations processes, ensures consistency and standardization of processes.
  • Prepare proposals and quotes for submission to customers.
  • Manage implementation of ERP system.


Health & Safety Responsibilities:

  • Ensure facility and all staff work in compliance with provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), regulations, and internal health and safety policies and procedures. Create a healthy, safe work environment free of harassment, discrimination, gossiping or unfair treatment of anyone.


Basic Qualifications:

  • Minimum six to eight years of progressively responsible experience in some combination of manufacturing management, materials management, engineering or quality.
  • Excellent communications and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated experience establishing or maintaining Lean operations.
  • Bachelor’s degree (business, engineering, a technical field, or equivalent) or 10 years of progressive experience in a manufacturing environment in lieu of bachelors degree.
  • A minimum of five years experience in aerospace manufacturing and ERP systems.
  • Strong interpersonal and negotiating skills.


Additional Skills:

  • Ability to recruit, manage and markedly improve performance, train and develop employees.
  • Should have a working knowledge of Transport Canada Manufacturing requirements per CARS 561.
  • Flexibility; must be able to lead in a constantly changing environment.
  • Able to meet deadlines and achieve objectives under pressure.
  • Possesses knowledge of manufacturing theories, processes and practices.
  • Strong communication, planning and organizational skills.
  • Must have ability to think innovative and champion change with a capacity to understand and simplify complex technical problems.
  • Working knowledge and experience in precision machining, sheet metal parts manufacturing, assembly, manufacturing processes, equipment and materials.
  • Excellent quality management system standards knowledge, especially AS9100C/ISO 9001:2008.
  • Ability to develop excellent customer relations.
  • Lean Continuous improvement knowledge and experience, Lean expert certification is an asset.
  • Demonstrates strong leadership skills.
  • Strong relationship building, coaching, and mentoring skills.
  • Results oriented and highly customer focused.
