We believe that everyone has the right to DEFINE themselves and their future.
That includes YOU.
How would you like to do it in a fun, high-performance culture that’s truly one of a kind – on a team that appreciates you for being you, helps our members retire with confidence and makes Canada better, all at the same time?
If that sounds like your thing – and you’re an exceptional Manager, Member Communications – we’d like to hear from you.
We’re CAAT Pension Plan, and we’re growing. We innovate defined benefit (DB) pension plans. What are they? Unlike other pension plans, they specifically define the lifetime benefits our members will receive in retirement. This means that our members know exactly what they’re getting every month – for life! Because we provide that certainty, we help more Canadians retire with greater financial security and priceless peace of mind and take pressure off the social safety net at the very same time, which frees up those resources for other Canadians who really need them.
The Manager, Member Communications will join CAAT’s award-winning communications team to lead the implementation of CAAT’s member communication strategy and the development of innovative and engaging communications in all channels, reaching Plan members at all stages of their membership. A thorough understanding of pensions will ensure member facing communications are clear, well-written, and accessible. The Manager, Member Communications works closely with stakeholders across diverse business areas, providing leadership and strategic guidance to help them meet their objectives.
We are looking for someone with the following attributes:
- Strong business acumen, with common sense and know-how, with proven ability to work well in a highly matrixed organization, with managers and employees of all levels, advising and gathering, preparing and vetting material in a tactful manner.
- A self-starter with demonstrated initiative, able to learn and ramp-up on projects quickly.
- Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple projects and competing deadlines, exercising attention to detail and strong project management skills.
- A true collegial team player with demonstrated ability to build and sustain relationships.
- A skillful storyteller, with a sense of what moves people to action.
- Ability to use innovative marketing/communications strategies and tactics to support business objectives, with a client focus.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills; including content strategy/framework development, writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
- Enthusiastic while being resilient and adaptable to unforeseen project changes.
The successful candidate will have a degree or diploma in marketing, communications, or a related field. You have 7-10 years’ communications or marketing experience, with 3-5 years’ experience in a leadership capacity with direct reports. Experience in financial services and/or highly regulated industries with strong governance or familiarity with pensions and pension communications is an asset.
Once here you will:
- Create regular reports, including update reports for work in progress and KPI reports for major projects.
- Identify CAAT Plan current and future communications needs through deep understanding of the audience.
- Manage development of communications products for active and retired members that are clear, easy-to-use, high quality, delivered in a variety of media channels.
- Lead the development and production of communications material that support Plan members at key phases of their membership, with a focus on creating an excellent member experience.
- Develop department project plans to ensure work is consistent with organization goals and completed on time. Regular project reporting and updates as required.
- Provide strategic and tactical communications advice to internal stakeholders as needed, to ensure all member-facing communications are consistent and high quality, maintaining the integrity of CAAT’s brand.
- Lead ongoing measurement and evaluation of communication effectiveness, including developing specified measures for Plan communications products and effectiveness of key messages, and programs.
- Lead the creation of engaging, effective communications campaigns to meet strategic objectives for all member audience segments.
- Lead team in developing appropriate new communication vehicles – media, channels, and other ways to convey key messages.
- Ensure team members are kept apprised of project deliverables and status, obtain input from subject-matter experts, and secure required legal and policy approval on content produced.
- Manage several projects simultaneously, each at varying stages, utilizing strong project management skills and an attentive mindset to maintain clarity on individual project details.
- Work with other departments and colleagues to provide guidance and support for their communication objectives and needs, ensuring strategic and program alignment.
- Create communications strategies and tactics to meet communications objectives for a complex, growing, and disparate audience, with maximum reach.
- Lead an integrated, high-functioning team of communications experts by establishing objectives, evaluating performance, and scheduling appropriate training.
- Guide both direct and indirect Communications team staff and other cross-functional members.
