Job Description

Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit, including GO Expansion, Light Rail Transit routes, and major expansions to Toronto’s subway system, to get people where they need to go, better, faster and easier. Metrolinx is an agency of the Government of Ontario.

The Capital Projects Group Reporting team is undergoing a transformation with the goal of advancing data literacy and analytics to enable a data driven culture. We are looking to establish a formal Business Intelligence team this year, with the Manager, Business Intelligence being a key member of this team. This role will be an integral part of our transition from legacy systems to a new BI platform (MS applications and Azure).
This position will be instrumental in building a BI solution as the single source of truth for CPG project related data to deliver data insights for CPG leadership, External Partners, Governance Committees and General Public. This is a hands on role that will lead a team of BI developers and BI Analysts and will work closely with the Data Architecture & Analytics team for the acquisition of new data sets and sources as well as the Performance Reporting team to produce operational reports. The ideal candidate will possess a mix of technical and business knowledge
What will I be doing?
  • Collaborate with Data Architecture & Analytics team for the development and maintenance of data pipelines and datasets to support Microsoft Power BI applications
  • Ensure performance, security and availability of databases to allow timely reflection of data to the various dashboards and reports
  • Establish control rooms for business units and provide reporting support, specifically using visualization tools
  • Manages and directs a team of Senior BI Developers and Analysts and delivers timely feedback to ensure a cohesive operational unit and the optimum use of team skills; manages staff and monitors work assignments to ensure adherence to timelines; monitors the achievement of performance objectives; develops and implements action plans to address performance gaps
  • Develop solutions to advance the data literacy within the CPG organization including the build of data models to enable self-serve analytics and reporting
  • Strong proficiency to communicate in both technical and business terms to initiate and lead discussions with key stakeholders to determine Program/Project reporting requirements with a lens of the entire BI lifecycle, including dataset development and transformation, building and deploying visualizations in Power BI to increase data-driven strategic decision making.
  • Develop logic and transformation rules that converts the raw data in to KPIs that will be used to manage the performance of CPG projects
  • Establish and implement a BI strategic plan and road map which includes prioritizing, scoping, identifying resource requirements, timelines and managing the Analytics & Reporting project pipeline.
  • Build robust analytical dashboards and reports within Power BI including projections, predictive analytics, point-in-time metrics, performance metrics including baseline and/or target versus actuals tracking.
What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?
  • Experience with Azure data platform including Data Factory, Data Lake and Databricks
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills to evaluate information, identify and analyze issues, and develop recommendations
  • Solid understanding of BI & Data analytics in data pipeline process management, defining reporting/analytics standards, developing reporting analytics tools and data access tools, constructing interactive dashboards, developing data visualization tools, testing, and validating its datain Power BI
  • Minimum of (8) years of progressively responsible experience in leading performance management, analyses, reporting, and business intelligence within a capital delivery/construction environment
  • Solid understanding of CPG business and operating environment is highly desirable. Experience in the construction industry
  • Interpersonal, oral/written/presentation skills to communicate with technical and business audience
  • Completion of a Degree in a related field such as Data Analytics, IT, Computer Science, Engineering, a combination of education, training, and experience deemed equivalent
  • Leadership and management skills to manage a high performing team.
  • Extensive experience in Microsoft Power Platform, including Power BI, Power Query, Power Automate, Power App creating data models, data-rich dashboards, implementing row-level security, Power Query, Pipelines, Paginated Reports and DAX using Microsoft BI stack.
  • Certifications or Designations – Certificate in Data Analytics an asset.
  • Advanced knowledge and expertise with SQL, along with at least one of these object-oriented/object function scripting languages: Python, PySpark and Scala etc.
  • Managerial or leadership experience with a demonstrated ability to plan, set priorities, schedule and lead, coach, motivate and manage staff
