Senior Business Intelligence (Bi) Performance Analyst

Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit, including GO Expansion, Light Rail Transit routes, and major expansions to Toronto’s subway system, to get people where they need to go, better, faster and easier. Our Rail Business Strategy & Operations Control Team is seeking a Senior BI Analyst to support development of the Rail Business Intelligence Reporting by conducting or participating in analytics projects to enhance understanding of business activity, deliver actionable insights into operational and financial areas, and provide reports that meet the needs of Transit Operations, Finance, management, and executives.
What will I be doing?

• Liaises with Rail Services to understand their needs for current and future reporting capabilities, understand and automate forecasting methods and provide improvements on current costing and forecasting processes
• Analyzes all available data sources (e.g. Business Intelligence (BI), other internal financial and non-financial data, external data, etc.) to identify opportunities for performance improvement, process improvements, cost savings and developing a “single source of truth” for Rail
• Leads and generates standard or custom reports to summarize business and/or operational data for review by executives, managers, partners, and other stakeholders
• Supports Operations with BI system self-serve capabilities and trains BI users
• Identifies, develops, manages, and executes analytical projects designed to uncover areas of business opportunity for Operations clients and subsequently develops business recommendations
• Leads, and develops reporting dashboards to highlight business activity and initiates proactive analysis to identify trends and data that support recommendations and innovations to improve operational results, improve operational processes, and drive operational effectiveness
• Defines and implements data reporting and analysis best practices (e.g. data integrity, test design, analysis, validation, and documentation)
• Participates in periodic reviews of BI systems and reports with Rail Leadership team
• Liaises with the Rail Services teams to understand system design functionality and best interpret, design, and support reporting for all internal and external customers
• Analyzes client business issues, and makes actionable solution recommendations
• Liaise and partner with Rail, Operations Stakeholders I&IT to support with related initiatives (e.g. Enterprise Data Governance, Rail Data Model)
• Leads, Designs and develops reporting tools to support Operations’ ability to make informed business decisions

What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?

• Advanced skills in MS Excel and familiarity with BI tools for both query and visualization (i.e. SQL, R, Python, Power BI, etc.)
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to build positive, productive interpersonal relationships with stakeholders
• Strong analytical skills, with experience in statistical analysis, regression modeling and forecasting, time/series analysis, data mining, and financial analysis.
• Experience with using and generating reports from Business Intelligence (BI) systems
• Completion of a diploma in a related discipline in statistics, Computer Science, Engineering, Business Administration- OR - completion of an apprenticeship program with trade certification, or a related discipline, or a combination of education, training, and experience deemed equivalent
• Demonstrated experience in using and developing BI systems, including report and dashboard development.
• Minimum six (6) years of related experience
