The Manager, Human Resources reports directly to the Sr. Manager – Human Resources (Western Canada) is responsible for providing daily support to the Western Canada Operations team in all aspects of Human Resources such as full cycle recruitment, coaching and employee development, compensation, employee relations, etc… and will also be accountable for monitoring, and implementing company health & safety programs and fostering a

culture of Health & Safety.


This role will liaise the Director Operations, managers and operation supervisors on various HR program and health & safety projects, as well as training and interacting with front line employees. It will also require travel to various sites in BC and AB and will provide indirect leadership to the HRC – Western Canada.


What success looks like:



Employee Relations – 30%

• Address employee behavioral issues by enforcing the corrective action process and ensure legal compliance is met.

• Involved in the execution of Company policies and procedures as well as ensure employee adherence.

• Participate in various types of meetings (employee communication meetings, management meetings, Corporate meetings, etc).

• Assist with the planning and implementation of employee events.

• Conduct exit interviews with terminated employees.

• Assist with the administration of benefits and payroll.



Leadership – 30%

• Provide coaching to affected individuals from hourly to leadership levels with concerns that have been identified.

• Influence and support organizational changes.

• Provide guidance when required to the leadership team to ensure regulatory requirements are met and enforced.



Health and Safety – 20%

• Promote leadership, continuous improvement and implementation of corporate Health and Safety (H&S) programs, practices and procedures.

• Perform H&S inspections/audits and identify corrective actions where needed, ensuring timely implementation and documentation.

• In conjunction with the HR Coordinator, you will provide employee training and H&S orientation as needed.

• In collaboration with Human Resources H&S team, administer Workers’ Compensation claims and case management.

• Assist Operations with site specific H&S plans, Job Site Assessments, Hazard Assessments, etc.

• Review all H&S reports and analyze compiled data to determine areas of improvement and trends

• You will be the active leader of Joint Health & Safety Committees.

• Participate in the review of new operations, processes and procedures (as well as proposed changes to existing operations) at the proposal and/or design phase to ensure health & safety matters are considered and incorporated.



Recruitment – 10%

• Support Operations & Sr. Manager, HR with the successful placements of various positions through conducting interviews and facilitating onboarding orientation and trainings of new hires (when required)

• Liaise with Corporate in the coordination of various development training programs for key roles such as Team Leaders.

Leadership

• Provide coaching to affected individuals from hourly to leadership levels with concerns that have been identified.

Workforce Planning – 5%

• In conjunction with the Sr. Manager, HR & Operations, develop a strategic plan to minimize Agency employee turnover prior and during peak/product launches to improve operating results.

• Create or revamp onboarding packages and orientation presentations which include Company policies and procedures, expectations of various positions, health and safety, and SOP for training purposes.


Performance Reviews – 5%

• Ensure that the Team Leaders conduct hourly performance reviews in a timely manner.

• Work with the Director of Operations & Sr. Manager, HR to ensure all CMPs (mid-year and end year) are completed within the designated deadlines and follow up as necessary.

• Provide guidance to members of the leadership team when required to assist with the development of their CMP.



What you bring to the role:


  • Experience in the warehouse/logistics/transportation industry strongly preferred.
  • You effectively plan and multi-task in fast-paced environments.
  • You display strong problem solving, organizational and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated experience and passion for Health & Safety (CRSP or similar designation would be an asset or desire to obtain)
  • Valid Driver’s License and you will be required to travel to other sites
  • In-depth knowledge of industry standards and regulations, as well as working knowledge of Employment Standards and Canada Labour Code
  • Competent computer skills, including Outlook, Excel, Word, Internet Explorer and Google Chrome.
  • 5+ years in an HR Generalist/Manager role preferred
  • You are adaptable in your approach and prioritize with focus on what adds value to the client.
  • You have the ability to read and understand technical information, as well as data, policies, laws, guidelines and procedures.
  • Bachelor’s Degree/Diploma; Human Resources
