In this role, the Director of Pricing and Business performance will be the business partner to the commercial team and Category Management functions.
Le Director Pricing will oversee the sales and margin performance and will take over the elaboration of pricing strategies. He/she will have the responsibility to identify opportunities, develop action plans to resolve anomalies and profit improvement initiatives.
The perfect candidate will monitor price adjustment mechanisms, rebate programs and execution of price changes; and will report regularly to the division management on the performance, the successes, and issues through KPIs and dashboards. He/she will be responsible to review approval process for price deviations and validate pricing logic of new business opportunities.
Responsibilities:
PRICING
• Define pricing strategies hand in hand with sales and category management teams and implement processes to define, approve and execute price lists and price changes.
- Work with systems teams to streamline the price management processes (pricing tools, internal communication, improvement to existing systems…)
• Building up a financial model for new opportunities, to evaluate profitability of current product lines/customers.
• Ensure accuracy of pricing (price lists and promotions, exceptions) and of price adjustment mechanisms (PAM), make sure anomalies are reviewed and corrective action plans and follow-ups are implemented.
• Constantly identify opportunities to improve our pricing strategies through internal/external benchmarking, leveraging product positioning, branding, promotions, rebate programs etc.
• Collaborate with the product management team to review our portfolio (SKU rationalization, product range evaluation)
• Be accountable for processing and accuracy of customer programs (volume rebates, coop programs, freight allowances etc).
• Shepherd the approval process for pricing requests, based on internal guidelines and best practices.
• Participate in our ERP implementation to standardize the pricing process globally.
• Develop and implement economic models to assess the profitability of new business proposals and assist in the development of creative, workable pricing solutions with our sales department.
• Work with our IT team to improve and expand our BI environment.
BUSINESS PERFORMANCE
• Business analytics:
- Measure pricing accuracy and performance (price changes vs evolution of major commodities and market indexes).
- Provide deep insight to the commercial, marketing and management teams regarding the sales dynamics (market and volume trends, price evolution, mix changes, segments and sku performance, POS data, leads conversion, etc) and marketing spend effectiveness.
- Create and maintain KPIs and dashboards allowing the sales and marketing teams to measure progress against strategic priorities.
• Management reporting:
- Develop KPI and dashboards to help the commercial teams monitor their performance and the impact of the pricing initiatives in relation to inflation and commodity cost changes.
- Build a comprehensive reporting directed toward the management teams to report on progress, successes and issues to address and support the preparation of the management reporting to the division team and financial reporting to the board.
- Conduct variance analysis for the SG&A spend compared to budget and previous year.
• Support for reforecast, budget and strategic plan processes.
- Work with sales and marketing managers to build their staffing and expense budgets.
- Be the key finance owner of those processes for volumes, sales and margins and ensure that deliverables and deadlines are respected.
Requirements
• University degree in Business; Accounting Designation / MBA an asset but not required.
• 10 years of relevant experience
• Proven results dealing with price management (retail, distribution…)
• Strong analytical and IT skills (advanced excel, databases, PowerBi an asset, ERP etc)
• Basic accounting knowledge (no designation required) but good understanding of P&L in a manufacturing environment, sensitivity to concepts such as standard costing (fix cost absorption, marginal profit etc)
• Excellent communication, presentation and facilitation skills.
• Experience in leading strategic planning initiatives.
• Ability to build intuitive and relevant dashboards.
• Bilingualism (English and French) would be an asset.
