Job Description
For millions of teams working in dozens of industries, day-to-day business gets done on the phone. So why—despite the huge leaps we've taken in design and usability—does most business phone software still look, feel, and act like it was born in the 90s? OpenPhone is changing that.

We’re a new type of business phone with a mission to help people communicate better and be more productive.

We’re backed by Y Combinator and some of the best venture firms around including Tiger Global, Craft Ventures, Slow Ventures, and others. We take pride in providing an exceptional customer experience and a product people love, which is why we’re excited that our customers have rated us the #1 VoIP Provider on G2.

OpenPhone is the modern, sophisticated answer to the clunky, outdated phone systems that have been slowing down businesses for years. And after earning over 25,000 happy customers and $56 million in funding in just four years, it's safe to say we're onto something big.

About The Role

Are you passionate about building a thriving and inclusive work culture for a fully remote company? We're seeking a dedicated Head of People to lead our People Operations team and support our globally distributed workforce. Join us in creating an exceptional employee experience and fostering a sense of belonging across borders.

Some Of The Things You’ll Do

  • Develop and execute strategies to enhance the employee experience, promote employee engagement, and drive positive and inclusive remote work culture.
  • Provide strategic direction and guidance to founders and senior leadership on all things People and culture.
  • Drive diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts to ensure a culture that embraces and values the diverse backgrounds and perspectives of our global team.
  • Develop and align people strategies with company values and culture, serving as a key advocate and driver of our core values throughout the organization.
  • Design and implement scalable HR processes, policies, and systems that cater to the unique needs of a remote workforce.
  • Lead and develop our People Operations team, providing guidance, mentorship, and fostering a collaborative and supportive environment.
  • Support employee growth and development through career progression frameworks, learning opportunities, and performance management programs.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices in remote work, HR, and people management to continuously improve our practices and offerings.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment on people-related initiatives, including recruiting, performance management, learning and development, compensation, and benefits.

About You

  • You have a proven track record in developing and implementing people strategies that foster engagement, productivity, and employee well-being in a remote environment.
  • You have a strong understanding of HR best practices, employment laws, and remote work trends.
  • You have excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build relationships across cultures and time zones.
  • You have at least 8+ years of experience in a similar people leadership role, preferably in a remote or global setting in a startup environment.
  • You have a strong understanding of business dynamics and the ability to translate business goals into actionable people strategies.
  • You have the ability to navigate ambiguity and adapt to the evolving needs of a growing organization.
  • You have at least 5+ years of experience as an HR business partner or in an equivalent strategic HR role, partnering with senior leadership to align people strategies with business objectives.
  • You have a passion for fostering an inclusive work culture that values diversity and promotes a sense of belonging.

As a fully remote company, we thrive asynchronously as a team. We are curious, ambitious, and dedicated to our work. We value trust above all else, and have a strong bias for action. If you're looking for a place to do your life's work, please get in touch. We'd love to hear from you.

And remember, there's no such thing as a 'perfect' candidate. We're looking for optimists with grit and determination, who are excited to face the challenges of a growing startup. OpenPhone is the type of company where you can grow, and we encourage you to apply for this role even if you don't think you meet all the requirements.

We are committed to creating an inclusive and diverse work environment. It is important that you are able to bring your authentic self to work every day. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.
