BASIC FUNCTION:

The Director, Community Programs is responsible for the development and expansion of a
network of programs and services, with the goal of supporting children, youth, and young adults
with disabilities in unlocking their potential through engaging, measurable and meaningful
community programs. The role will lead and grow a capable function, developing innovative
community-based programs that engage communities and families across the country.
As a member of the Senior Management team, the Director plays a critical role in helping March
of Dimes Canada (MODC) achieve its vision to provide high quality programs locally and
nationally. The incumbent is instrumental in ensuring consistent and effective internal processes
and communications in order to strengthen MODC’s programs and position the organization for
continued success and growth. As a strategic leader with demonstrated experience in leading
and managing large, diverse teams to deliver on organizational priorities, you will drive
innovative thinking, implement business transformations, and communicate the value of change
to stakeholders as well as staff and leaders across MODC
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Participate and assist in community problem solving and collaboration initiatives as required.
- Ensure risk management and due diligence policies and processes are implemented.
- Support the Vice President, Employment Services, in related initiatives and projects.
- Build strong relationships and partnerships with key external stakeholders, including community members, other funders and partners, and community agencies.
- Using a continuous improvement model, monitor the effectiveness of community programs and provide guidance and suggestions on necessary programmatic changes and improvements.
- Develop, implement, and manage annual program budget and expenditures in conjunction with designated team members.
- Provide leadership and mentoring for team members involved in leading program delivery, including setting annual objectives, performance management and ensuring professional development opportunities.
- Contribute as a member of the cross-organization Senior Management Team and participate in cross-functional teams to help realize organizational strategies and plans.
- Drive a strategic approach to create and improve systems that enable community programs: identifying opportunities for strategic partnerships with the network of community service organizations and other stakeholders. Overseeing investments to strengthen partnerships, collaboration, and collective impact.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Extensive knowledge and expertise in the non-profit sector and strong understanding of the human services sector and related social issues.
- You understand business metrics, performance measurement and have experience leading business analysis and implementing identified improvement opportunities.
- Post secondary education with post-graduate level qualifications preferred in occupational therapy, social services, child development or related field, or equivalent work-related experience.
- Sound judgement, political acuity, and organizational awareness in managing issues.
- Proven organizational abilities and capacity to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines under pressure.
- Highly developed analytical skills with ability to conduct research and use independent judgement to problem solve.
- Knowledge of and experience with municipal, provincial and/or federal government funding.
- Demonstrated commitment and proven success in engaging employees, building leadership capacity, leading change, and promoting a strong organizational culture of excellence, equality, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility.
- Ability to develop, build and maintain strategic partnerships with community partners and diverse stakeholders with divergent interests.
- Experience developing and translating multi-year, results oriented strategic plans into annual operational plans that achieve measurable results with proven process and project management skills.
- More than 5 years and up to and including 10 years' experience in strategic program planning, implementation and evaluation and community development.
- Experience leading operations, service delivery transformation initiatives, community development with strong facilitation skills to move complex partnerships forward.
- Demonstrated leadership experience advancing program development, execution, experience leading organizational development, change management, introducing new methodologies and improved program processes into an organization.
- Ability to influence, negotiate, manage sensitive issues, and coordinate complex projects with multiple stakeholders.
- Superior communication skills and experience presenting information and making recommendations to senior management and stakeholders with the ability to influence change and challenge existing practices.
- Extensive knowledge and experience working in the disability sector, including supporting children, youth, and young adults with disabilities.
