Position Overview


The Director of Resident Care functions as the director of nursing and ensures client care is delivered in accordance with Seniors Health and CRNM standards for nursing services as well as nursing and health care legislation. In accordance with the Philosophy and Mission objectives of Tabor Home, the successful candidate is responsible for managing the nursing activities and staff for a 100-bed facility on a 24-hour, 7 days/week basis. Through direct involvement and delegation of duties to staff, the incumbent is responsible for: managing through the principles of planning, organizing, leading, and evaluating; using an interdisciplinary approach in providing assessment, planning, implementation; and evaluating the care of the residents, including consulting with external resources in the health field for the care of residents such as occupational therapists, pharmacists, Eden Mental Health Centre, etc..) The successful candidate facilitates positive working relationships and effective communications with clients, families, volunteers, staff and external human resources. The incumbent coordinates educational opportunities for staff and work with educational institutions to facilitate practicums for health care aides and nursing students as appropriate.


Qualifications


  • Completion of Health Services Leadership and Management Certificate or Master’s program in a related field; enrolment within such a program with discussion regarding completion dates
  • Given the cultural diversity of our region, the ability to respect and promote a culturally diverse population is required
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask and function under pressure while maintaining a good working attitude and positive work relationships
  • Good physical and mental health to meet the demands of the position
  • Experience managing the nursing activities and staff of a personal care home is considered an asset with demonstrated knowledge of Standards and the accreditation process
  • Active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba/College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses;
  • Five (5) years of Management experience is required including: experience supervising 50+ staff and providing human resource functions within a unionized environment; experience developing budgets and ensuring financial targets are adhered to and met
  • Demonstrated initiative skills
  • Demonstrated management and leadership skills
  • Good work and attendance record
  • Experience incorporating word processing into daily work activities as well as experience utilizing spreadsheets and creating formulas is required
  • Demonstrated organizational and planning skills with the ability to be flexible and identify work priorities
  • Demonstrated ability to respect confidentiality including paper, electronic formats and other mediums
  • A minimum of seven (7) years’ experience actively practicing nursing within a health care facility including experience in the area of specialty; experience within a long-term care facility is considered an asset
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
  • Proficiency of both official languages is essential for target and designated bilingual positions
  • Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing
  • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills
