On behalf of an exclusive client of Carecor’s Search Services team, we are seeking 2 Directors of Resident Care, one for downtown Toronto and one for central Scarborough, Ontario. Both Directors will need to be Chinese Speaking in either Mandarin or Cantonese.


These are full-time permanent jobs with a long-established and respected organization that provides the HOOPP pension plan, a single or family medical benefits plan, an annual bonus plan, 18 paid sick days per year, and other benefits. The hours are generally expected to be 9am until 5pm on Monday to Friday, and may occasionally require attendance in person or on the telephone outside of the standard hours for emergencies.


About The Employer


Over several decades, our client has continuously evolved to keep up with the changing needs of our society in the Greater Toronto Area. Even as their multiple long-term care centres and other initiatives are doing their part to benefit the community, they know they must relentlessly improve to maintain their high quality standards and expand the scope of services. They are much more than a collection of Long Term Care centres, but at this time two of their LTCs are seeking a new Director of Resident Care, on a full-time permanent basis.


The new Directors will manage nurses and personal support workers, and will be supported by Assistant Directors of Resident Care that will report up to the new Directors. All other services including the dining room, cleaners, laundry, business operations, security etc, are managed by peer leaders in the organization.


Position Summary


Reporting to the Senior Administrator of the Long Term Care Centre, the Director of Resident Care is responsible for leading, organizing, and managing the nursing and personal care services within the Home, while ensuring that required legislations are being met. The Director of Resident Care will oversee all clinical and administrative operations of the nursing and personal care services. He/she must improve our residents’ quality of care while also managing a significant budget.



Key Responsibilities


  • Accountable for the highest standard of resident care and quality of life being provided for the residents through the development and maintenance of appropriate care plans, effective supervision of the required equipment and supplies and appropriate staffing pattern, nursing services, policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for all HR business within the nursing and personal care department including recruitment, orientation, performance management, progressive discipline, etc.
  • Establish positive relationships between residents, family members, staff, volunteers, and the community.
  • Leads the implementation and monitoring of required clinical programs, i.e. Falls Prevention, Skin and Wound Care, Continence Care, Pain Management, Behavior Therapy.
  • Participate in the CARF (The Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities) Accreditation process.
  • Other duties as may be assigned.
  • Ensure professional practice standards are effectively deployed, communicated, and monitored, in accordance with the standards and guidelines of all applicable legislations and organizational standards.
  • Responsible for the training, coaching, and development of improvement plans of nursing staff as needed.
  • Monitor and review the staffing plan and financial performance regularly to maintain a balanced budget.
  • Promote and provide resident-centered care consistent with the Residents’ Bill of Rights, which are available for inspection before interviews.

Key Qualifications


  • At least 1 year of experience working as a registered nurse in the long-term care sector.
  • Demonstrates caring and respectful behavior with strong clinical, assessment, conflict management, communication, and organization skills.
  • Team player with a customer service focus who exhibits leadership, initiative, and continuous improvement.
  • Post-RN education in nursing administration and management; preference is BScN and/or business degree in health management particularly long term care and further education in gerontology, geriatrics, or rehabilitation.
  • Proficiency in oral and written English.
  • Registered Nurse with a current certificate of competence from College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Relevant computer literacy.
  • Cultural sensitivity and the ability to speak Cantonese and or Mandarin
  • At least 3 years of experience working as a registered nurse in a managerial or supervisory capacity in a health care setting.
  • Possession of valid CPR (Health Care Provider Level C) and First Aid certificates.
  • Current membership with Gerontological Nursing Association (GNA) and Registered Nurses’ Association of Ontario (RNAO) is desirable.
