Automation Control Engineer Jobs

Purpose Of Position
Programs automation and controls systems and works within the team for continuous improvement to increase efficiency, and production quality and volume. Apply principles and techniques of electrical engineering to accomplish goals. Familiar with a variety of electrical concepts, practices, and procedures. Focuses on IATF standard for quality improvement through a formal commitment to excellence, cost efficiency and reliability.
Key Accountabilities & Activities

• Is a safety advocate, leading by example by complying with all Company policies, Environmental and Occupational Health & Safety legislation
• Provide training on the developed control systems and procedures for operations and maintenance
• Other duties, as assigned by Supervisor
• Ensure policies and procedures are in accordance with EH&S and WCM standards with respect to quality of work, maintaining a safe, clean, and orderly work area, and protection of the environment
• Ensure equipment complies with all relevant standards and regulations
• Complete projects by taking ownership of deliverables and using technical and project management skills
• Provide electrical assistance including troubleshooting, project engineering and project management
• Lead project integration activities (set architecture, perform and coordinate the programming, configuration and testing, PLC systems).
• Knowledge of ESA and CSA standards as they pertain to electrical safety and safeguarding of machinery compliance
• Provide assistance in control panel design, instrumentation selection, and network equipment specification and configuration.
• Execute improvements in machine maintainability and eligibility. Provide training to less experience plant-based technicians who are responsible for maintaining the work cells.
• Programming automation and controls systems and improving existing PLC programs including servo drives and A/C drives.
• Develop critical spare parts lists and ensure parts are procured and set-up in the replenishment system. Ensure version controls and back-ups are managed for all programmable devices
• Prepare as-build drawings and update the existing electrical drawings as required, to ensure all electrical schematics for all equipment are up-to-date
• Support company IATF 16949 initiatives

JOB REQUIREMENTS (Knowledge/Skill/Experience)

• Familiarity with Advanced Electrical Theory
• Minimum of four (4) years of progressive electrical experience in a manufacturing environment
• Skills and abilities to provide technical and administrative guidance for activities in defined scope of responsibilities
• Demonstrated planning abilities, prioritize and delegate work assignments
• Advanced software knowledge required
• Ability to exercise independent judgement in methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results
• Programming: Allen-Bradley Studio 5000 & FactoryTalk SE/ME, Siemens STEP 7 (Ladder Logic)
• Instrumentation Hardware: Experience with common process instruments (flow, level temperature, analytical);
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Proficiency in using the Microsoft Office Suite
• College Diploma or Master’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering fields
• Strong leadership, relationship management, and organizational planning and project management skills
• Some Project Management/Managing Contractors experience desired
• Control Hardware: Allen-Bradley/Siemens/HMI

Mental And Physical Effort & Working Conditions

• Exposure to factory machine noise levels
• Depending on the work site, may be exposed to contaminants
• Usually works indoors, but may on occasion work outside
• Combination of sitting at desk in shared office; walking, standing or climbing in plant
• Appropriate safety regulations followed at all times
• Variable plant temperatures (based on season)
• Must wear Personal Protective Equipment as required by Company policy and legislation
