Your role
CBC Toronto is looking for an associate producer of social and digital video, reporting to CBC Toronto’s social producer. The successful candidate is responsible for sourcing, building, writing and developing video and graphics treatments for a variety of endpoints, including CBC’s owned and operated platforms, Meta platforms, and YouTube.
You are at the leading edge of changing audience consumption trends in the digital space. You have a deep understanding of major issues in the GTA and the cultural intelligence to identify how those issues affect the myriad of communities who live here.
You are a natural visual storyteller. You have strong writing skills that you harness to clearly focus a visual story for a variety of audiences and embrace public engagement. You are as comfortable in breaking news situations as you are delivering an explainer for social platforms. You are curious, eager to learn and throw yourself headfirst into change, big or small. You take initiative, are collaborative and a great communicator. You use data to make decisions and stay on top of consumption patterns.
You are always striving to get better and ensure CBC Toronto’s journalism stand out in a crowd.
Work must adhere to CBC journalistic and/or program policies, practices and standards but initiative and independent judgment are required.
Key Tasks
  • Makes recommendations to assist in planning station coverage.
  • Produces and edits social treatments in breaking news scenarios.
  • Coordinates and delivers livestreams for breaking news and special events.
  • Engage with audiences on various platforms, applying CBC’s best practices.
  • Work with reporters and other staff to develop strong visual treatments.
  • Writes quick, accurate stories in a breaking news situation.
We Are Looking For a Candidate With The Following
  • Comfort and ability to learn the intricacies of a variety of video management systems.
  • Experience pitching and developing stories with a clear focus for social audiences.
  • Comfortable editing with Avid Media Composer, Adobe Premiere Pro, or similar editing software.
  • A minimum of two years experience in digital/social media.
  • The ability to find local angles in national stories and issues.
  • Demonstrated solid news judgment and a strong understanding of the CBC’s Journalistic Standards and Practices.
  • Comfort and fluency with a variety of digital analytic tools and metrics.
  • Must work onsite at the Toronto Broadcast Centre.
  • A university degree in journalism or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of how to structure reporterless pieces and hone the focus for a social audience.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, overtime and weekends, as required.
  • Exceptional proven organizational skills.
  • Deep knowledge of and connection to equity-deserving communities across the GTA.
