The Agency Governance and Oversight Branch within the Strategy, Support and Integrated Initiatives (SSII) division provides a shared service between Justice and Public Safety and Emergency Services departments This branch provides a broad variety of services to these ministries, including Legal Aid policy and oversight, management of judicial appointments, and governance and oversight to the Ministry's agencies, boards, and commissions (ABCs).


Role


We are hiring to an exciting position where you will put your exceptional organizational and attention to detail skills to work as you help establish processes, develop and monitor policies, and research best practices in judicial selection in other jurisdictions. Duties


As Assistant Coordinator you will be keen and eager to step in and learn a little known area of the department where you will be responsible for a wide range of duties including


  • Use your knowledge in a variety of research tools, internet and statistical information to draft letters, memos, recommendation for orders in council, ministerial orders and speaking notes
  • Modernize the judicial databases for reporting judicial compliment of federal and justices, application judges and justices of the peace
  • Liaise with official documents and appointments and preparing materials required for appointment of judicial officers
  • Coordinate information requests from the legal profession and use your strong knowledge in ARTS to draft briefing notes in response to various requests for information pertaining to the judicial application process and appointments

  • Superior ability to develop/maintain relationships with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Knowledge of current government issues affecting Alberta, and knowledge of Government legislation (such as the Court of Justice Act)
  • Ability to provide timely response, meet deadlines and comply to provincial legislation determining these deadlines


Qualifications


Two year diploma in a related field (Business Administration Diploma, Legal Assistant Diploma) is required. 1 year of related experience is preferred.


Equivalencies May Be Considered


Directly related education or experience will be considered on the basis of 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.


Required


  • Preference will be given to those that have experience working with the Government legislation and/or the Court of Justice Act.
  • Please outline how your experience as it relates to the qualifications in detail in your cover letter. Applications without a cover letter will not be considered.
  • Experience with process improvement projects.


Assets


  • Experience interacting with judiciary
  • Experience interpreting or applying the Court of Justice Act
  • Experience interpreting or applying Government legislation
  • Experience with spreadsheets (Excel) and PDF files (Adobe Acrobat Pro)
  • Experience in e-file management (e.g. Enterprise Connect)
  • Experience with database systems (e.g. Access)


Candidates with lesser qualifications may be considered at a lower classification and salary.

Salary


$2,133.27 - $2,773.10 bi-weekly ($55,678 - $72,377/year)

Hours of work: Monday – Friday, 8:15 am -4:30 pm (36.25/week)
