Job Description

THE OPPORTUNITY

Join a progressive and collaborative Executive Team as theVice President of Clinical Services and Chief Nurse Executive (CNE)at Georgian Bay General Hospital (“GBGH”). The successful applicant you will join GBGH at the start of a new strategic plan with a purpose of “we make excellent care personal”. This role reports to the President & Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and works closely with the Senior Management Team to provide executive leadership and oversight of the clinical operations of the hospital and ensure a culture focused on patient and family experience, enhanced patient safety, positive team experience, and strategic partnerships to support best patient outcomes. This role will also work closely with senior clinical leaders, including the Chief of Staff to develop, promote and sustain quality of care and excellence in nursing practice as per the Ontario College of Nurses and Canadian Nurses Association.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Leadership & Development

  • Actively contributes to a positive and generative Board of Directors, including acting as the Co-Chair of the Quality and Safety Committee and Patient Family Advisory Committee
  • Contributes positively to the growth, development and performance of the leadership team including effective decision making, delegation and promotion of a growth mindset
  • Demonstrate and promote commitment at all levels of the organization to achieve the strategic priorities of the organization in a manner aligned with our purpose and values
  • Oversight of reframing strategic priorities into realizable goals through strategic partnership and synergistic relationships

  • Advances and promotes patient/family care delivery model(s) and clinical standards consistent with current research, professional standards and within operational pressures
  • Develops, maintains, and influences key relationships, diverse interest groups internally and externally to deliver upon the organization’s strategic plan

Implement Business Practices to Improve Quality, Performance and Efficiency

  • Optimizes programs/solutions to improve performance of departments, services, the hospital, and local / regional systems including exploring innovative and adaptable solutions that work within a balanced fiscal position
  • Ensures clinical programs are responsive to and anticipating the needs of the community
  • Responds effectively and with agility to new/changing healthcare opportunities

Job Requirements:

QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE

The role of Vice President Clinical Services & CNEis demanding role, requiring an exceptional combination of leadership ability, a demonstrated track record of achievement, and a variety of personal and professional attributes equal to the opportunity of this role.

The ideal candidate will possess the following key competencies, record of experience and academic preparation:

  • A leadership and management style that is positive, collaborative, consultative, honest, participatory, respectful, and empowering
  • As a partially designated French speaking organization, French verbal and written communication skills are considered an asset in this position
  • A minimum 10 years of progressively responsible clinical management and leadership roles in an acute care setting
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing
  • Strong personal ‘hands on’ leadership and management skills, with an exceptional ability to build and mentor strong teams, and to motivate and encourage continuous learning
  • Certified Health Services Executive designation (CHE) preferred
  • The individual has demonstrated ability at engaging effectively at all levels of the organization and understand the importance of effective communication
  • Experience in leveraging data and evidence to inform decision-making and innovative practices
  • Masters in Nursing, Education, Health Administration or Health Sciences preferred
  • A reputation for openness, honesty, integrity, and trustworthiness
  • Registration in good standing with the Colleges of Nurse of Ontario
  • Proven team leadership and experience in strategic planning, capacity planning, financial and health care transformations
  • Experience in leading large scale change initiatives with demonstrated ability to manage multiple and complex projects to meet aggressive timelines
  • Applied knowledge and experience with LEAN principles, concepts, and tools

THE HOSPITAL

Georgian Bay General Hospital (GBGH) is a 113-bed hospital located in Midland, ON and serving a catchment area that includes the communities of Midland, Penetanguishene, Township of Tiny, Township of Tay, Christian Island, Georgian Bay Township and Springwater Township. It serves a population base of 55,000 swelling to more than 150,000 for six months of the year with seasonal residents.

With a budget of approximately $80M, 800 employees, more than 100 active Credentialed Staff and approximately 70 regional affiliate and consulting physicians. Georgian Bay General Hospital offers a diverse array of services that includes acute care, rehabilitation and complex continuing care and is currently in the early planning phases for addition of 36 inpatient mental health beds and new hospital.
