ABOUT THE PRESIDENT
The President will provide strategic leadership of the company by working closely with the Board of Directors and senior management team to ensure the health, growth, and sustainable management of this company. They will lead the planning and implementation of new and long-term business strategies, and work with the Board to set strategic goals for the company. The President will be an experienced leader and administrator who has proven knowledge of applicable best practices and applicable regulations to ensure that the properties under their care are well-maintained, occupied by reliable tenants, and generate a steady income for the property owners.
KEY LEADERSHIP ACCOUNTABILITIES
Strategic, Financial, and Operational Planning
- Implement financial policies and processes in accordance with policies and guidelines established by the Board
- Oversee the comprehensive safety framework and protocols ensuring issues are identified and appropriately addressed and necessary reporting is completed
- Work with the finance team to develop cash flow projections, budgeting, and reporting mechanisms
- Develop and implement processes and practices to evaluate the company’s ability to meet needs and address future conditions or issues
- Oversee operational systems, processes, and infrastructure and anticipate required updates
- Create strategies to position the organization 10 years in the future by anticipating and acting on trends
- Assume overall accountability for short- and long-term capital and operating budgets and present them annually to the Board of Directors
- Lead the development of the operational and financial plan, including the development and monitoring of annual operating budgets
- Lead the creation and ongoing monitoring of the strategic plan through an inclusive and engaging process with the Board, senior management, and staff
- Provide leadership in promoting the vision, mission, values, and strategic directions
- Ensure the development of comprehensive business plans with clear identification of cost and revenue drivers and strategies to control expenses while driving revenue, as well as evidence-based analysis of future scenarios
- Evaluate the company’s financial, operational, sales, and marketing structures to plan for continual improvements and a continual increase in operating efficiencies
- Oversee the administration, management, contract compliance, and maintenance of all real estate properties and services
- Plan, develop, implement, and direct the company’s operational and fiscal function and organizational performance
- Translate the company’s vision, mission, values, and strategy into concrete, specific, understandable, and measurable operational plans that also reflect industry standards and regulations as relevant
Human Resources and Performance Management
- Develop, implement, and monitor corrective action for performance variances against the plan and budget
- Effectively lead, guide, mentor, coach and collaborate with the senior management team to ensure the achievement of goals and to build a high-performance workplace
- Embed accountability, efficiency and continuous improvement in the processes and practices throughout the organization
- Develop and embed risk management practices in daily operations that support innovation while mitigating risk
- Establish strong human resource practices that ensure highly qualified staff are recruited and retained and performance expectations are clearly defined
- Ensure the development of an effective organizational structure that supports the strategic directions, priorities and efficient delivery of services
- Establish and implement a succession management and professional development process to ensure management and staff have the appropriate competencies to effectively perform the activities of their positions and advance within the organization
- Establish processes and procedures to collect and analyze relevant data and information to inform decision-making regarding policy and standards
Board of Directors Support and Stakeholder Relations
- Build trusted relations with key partners and stakeholders and act as a point of contact for important stakeholders
- As the official link between the Board and the employees of the organizations, ensure effective formal communication and the appropriate sharing of information between the Board and the organization’s employees
- Ensure formal written documentation including reports, background information, and briefing materials are prepared and presented to the Board of Directors and their committees as required to support decisions and the development of policy and direction as well as to ensure the Board is appropriately informed of progress
- Provide advice and guidance to the Board on the development/revision of financial, human resource, and operational policies and ensure implementation of and compliance with these policies
- Identify key issues for Board deliberations and develop agendas and materials for Board and Board Committee meetings in collaboration with the Board Chair
- Support the Board of Directors by attending board meetings and providing timely reports as required
- Represent the organization in the community and serve as the spokesperson for the media
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS
The President is responsible for ensuring the overall success of the company and requires strong leadership skills and the ability to develop and maintain an environment aligned with the company’s core values. The Board of Directors will rely on the knowledge, skills, and abilities of the individual in the role. Candidates must meet the following education and experience requirements and be able to demonstrate several leadership and technical competencies.
The ideal candidate will have a post-secondary degree in business or a relevant discipline or equivalent experience complemented by ten to fifteen years of senior leadership experience. This includes experience in managing operations, strategic planning, and leading a diverse team. Familiarity with the regulations and standards governing rental property and development is strongly desired to ensure the company is compliant. Experience in financial management, budgeting, and resource allocation is essential to ensure the financial stability and sustainability of the company. Candidates should have a track record of effectively engaging and building relationships with various stakeholders, including staff, government agencies, and a board of directors. The President will seek and identify opportunities for organizational growth and sustainability.
Ideal candidates will have demonstrated experience as strong leaders who can inspire and motivate a diverse workforce, set a clear vision for the organization, and make strategic decisions. They should demonstrate high ethical standards, integrity, and honesty in all aspects of their work, ensuring a culture of trust and transparency within the organization. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential for effectively conveying the organization's mission, goals, and policies to stakeholders, including residents, employees, and the board of directors. The President should possess strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills to navigate complex situations, adapt to changing circumstances, and address challenges effectively.
