Job Details
Position Title: Sustainability Communications & Events Assistant
Status: 12 month FT Contract, Initiatives and Opportunities (August 2023 – August 2024)
Hours: 37.5 hrs / week
Faculty/Department: Office of Sustainability, Inclusion & Belonging
Campus/Location: Hybrid – North and Lakeshore Campuses in-person and work virtual from home (varies weekly)
Salary: Pay band D ($24.62/hr - $28.52/hr), plus competitive health benefits
What You Will Do
Under the direction of the Sustainability Manager, the Sustainability Communication and Events Assistant will assist with communication and events initiatives for the Office of Sustainability. They are responsible for supporting the delivery of sustainable events, to promote sustainability across the institution and support the current Sustainability Strategic Sustainability Plan.
The incumbent will also: work with communications tools (website, social media, Canva, InDesign etc.), including direct design and content of marketing materials (Humber TV, posters, signage, etc.); support tracking metrics related to communications and events, and provide office administrative support as required.
Specifically
  • Brainstorm and implement new and creative ideas to increase awareness about sustainability initiatives at Humber College, including designing print and online campaigns (Canva).
  • Promote Humber Sustainability at North and Lakeshore campuses: Put up posters, help manage volunteers, run engaging sustainability events for students and staff.
  • Provide support with event planning and coordination including Orientation Week, Earth Week, Fair Trade Campus Week, and other events Humber’s Office of Sustainability is involved with (occasionally includes weekend hours).
  • Assist with communications initiatives including social media posts, website maintenance, internal and external newsletters, reviewing general sustainability email requests and other tasks as assigned. Manage and update a social media calendar and schedule posts.

What You Bring To The Role
Education
Soon to be completed degree or recent graduate in Journalism, Digital Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Event Management, Media Studies, or related programs.
Experience
Demonstrate advanced writing and editing skills (press releases, presentations, blogs, feature articles, social media posts etc.)
Creative thinker that has understanding and interest in sustainability, especially in the higher education sector
Team player who is energetic, enthusiastic and self-directed
Consistently show initiative, curiosity and appetite for learning
Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment Able to work independently as well as part of a team Comfortable working with technology systems (e.g., Canva, Hootsuite, Microsoft Office Suite, InDesign)
Volunteer experience is valid
