The full-time Social Researcher & Engagement Specialist is required to support ICE’s social research, communications, Indigenous and stakeholder engagement, and project support tasks associated with Indigenous & Community Engagement (ICE).
Social Researcher & Engagement Specialist Job Responsibilities:
·Working with and supporting project managers in carrying out social research studies, including socio-economic baseline studies and impact assessments, community-based research, social qualitative research studies, etc.
·Plan and support social research programs with and for Indigenous communities on inter-disciplinary projects
·Conduct and support social and economic research using primary research methods such as in-depth interviews, surveys (online, phone, intercept), focus groups/breakout sessions, etc.
·Conduct and support social and economic research using secondary research methods such as literature reviews
·Conduct qualitative data analysis and interpretation
·Support the design, delivery and documentation of Indigenous community, public and stakeholder engagement activities (e.g. engagement records and reporting)
·Support the design and delivery of community engagement/consultation programs, including development of communication materials, engagement activities, etc.
·Prepare well-researched and written deliverables in accordance with best practices and/or protocols identified by provincial, federal, or territorial regulatory requirements and as identified by Indigenous communities and groups
·Support business development efforts, including potential client/prospect identification, client-facing activities, proposal writing
·Contribute to the preparation of technical reports
·Other duties as assigned
Social Researcher & Engagement Specialist - Qualifications / Skills:
·Passion for Indigenous engagement and social research
·Demonstrated experience working with Indigenous communities and groups
·Strong qualitative research and analytical skills
·Ability to work independently and manage multiple workloads
·Provide superb client service
·Excellent verbal and written communication skills
·Ability to write proposals and technical reports
·Impeccable time management skills with the ability to multi-task
·Detail-oriented approach with the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines
Education and Experience Requirements:
·University degree in social sciences (e.g. Indigenous studies, anthropology, sociology, archaeology, environmental studies, community studies or planning, etc.)
·5+ years of applied experience in the consulting field
·Familiarity with environmental/impact assessment processes (federal, provincial, or territorial)
·Experience conducting socio-economic baseline studies and impact assessments
·Gender-based analysis (GBA+) training
·OCAP training
·Knowledge of Indigenous cultural, historical and political context in Canada, UNDRIP, Truth and Reconciliation
·Familiarity with consultation and/or community engagement documentation software is an asset
·Valid Class G driver’s license
·Willingness to travel
