We are currently recruiting a Site Safety Coordinator to work on-site on various construction sites in British Columbia.


The Role


Proactively ensure Company safety policies and procedures are being adhered to, while meeting and/or exceeding all regulatory requirements. Provide formal and informal training to Superintendents and field workers to educate them about our safety policies and procedures. Conduct site inspections to ensure company safety policies and procedures are being met. This role is to be performed with high standards of professionalism, verbal and written communication, documentation, and confidentiality. This is a “hands-on” position that will involve working outdoors 75% of your day. This position also requires ladder use, going up and down stairs and walking on uneven ground and may involve lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds. The Site Safety Coordinator is exposed to weather and site conditions and will need to dress appropriately.

Duties/Responsibilities


  • Reviewing previous day's documentation which includes daily Field Level Hazard Assessments and incident investigations
  • Conduct interviews and take photographs of any major incidents or accidents and provide a report to the Director EHS and VP, Operations
  • Identifying and documenting hazards and conducting a follow up inspection to ensure hazards are corrected
  • Providing coaching and mentoring to all Pagnotta employees and subtrades relating to safety issues and concerns and ensuring compliance to Safety Program and legislative requirements.
  • Conduct and document weekly site safety meetings
  • Ensuring injuries that are WorkSafeBC reportable are reported to Director EHS and HR within 24 hours to ensure timely reporting to WorkSafeBC
  • Ensuring documentation is filed and submitted appropriately
  • Reviewing safe work procedures and providing updates and/or creation as required
  • Prepare and submit all require paperwork relating to an incident
  • Assisting with correcting hazards
  • Conducting weekly site inspections to help the Superintendent maintain a site which meets our safety standards, ensuring appropriate documentation is maintained, indicating deficiencies, action taken, and date corrective action is performed
  • Maintaining a healthy working relationship with the Superintendents and field workers including all Pagnotta subtrades
  • Assisting Superintendents with any safety related items
  • Ensuring protection of working and company privacy and confidentiality is always upheld
  • Ensuring site compliance with all legislation including first aid kits, first aiders on site, appropriate safety certification for equipment operators and procedures
  • Collaborating compliance to contractual issues relating to safety
  • Escorting injured worker to medical clinics as required
  • Monitoring site for safety program compliance
  • Preparing modified work assignments for injured workers that are not fit for regular duties by collaborating with site supervision, other Site Safety Coordinators, Director EHS and HR.
  • Providing applicable reports to the Director, EHS and VP, Operations to assess the safety status of sites
  • Maintaining a professional, positive company image both internally and externally
  • Leading or participating in thorough investigations, when required utilizing root cause analysis
  • Ensuring medical professionals are provided with information on Company Modified Work Program to ensure optimum outcome of medical assessment
  • Providing weekly follow up to Director EHS and HR on modified worker status and estimated dates of return to regular duties


Working Conditions


  • Exposed to weather and site conditions
  • Five days per week, Monday to Friday, 8 hours/day. Overtime and work on weekends as required
  • From time to time, Site Safety Coordinator may be required to lift, carry, push/pull materials or equipment up to 50 lbs
  • Approximately six hours per day will be spent standing, walking, climbing stairs or ladders, approximately two hours per day spent sitting in meetings and/or working at a computer terminal
  • CSA certified steel toe work boots that cover the ankle. We provide safety glasses, hard hat and hi-vis apparel

Educational/Experience Requirements


  • CSTS 2020, WHMIS and Standard First Aid preferred.
  • Proficient English both written and verbal. Spanish would be considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of commercial construction activities and processes.
  • Current or ongoing NCSO accreditation and/or previous Construction Supervisor Experience.
