We are currently accepting resumes for part-time Shift Leaders. This position will be responsible for assisting with leading part-time staff, performing ice maintenance, cleaning, and facility maintenance at various recreation facilities at the City of Guelph. Guided by the goals and objectives of the City of Guelph Corporate Strategic Plan and committed to the Corporate Values of integrity, service, inclusion, wellness and learning, the candidate will aid in the achievement of the Community Vision for an inclusive, connected and prosperous city.

Hours of Work

Up to 23 hours per week, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Your role

• Provide ice maintenance during shifts and operate associated equipment as required.
• Assist with maintaining safe environment throughout facility at all times.
• Work in compliance with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and adhere to all City of Guelph and facility service standards and policies.
• Act as ambassador for the City of Guelph, representing such in a professional manner at all times.
• Perform any additional tasks as assigned.
• Work within the specifications of supervisor or assigned supervisory staff.
• Operate various models of ice-resurfacing and ice maintenance equipment.
• Work with enthusiasm and professionalism as a member of operations team.
• Greet the public in a welcoming and friendly manner, consistently maintaining a positive attitude.
• Perform general cleaning/maintenance as assigned throughout each shift (e.g., sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, emptying waste containers in designated areas, washroom and dressing room cleaning, snow shoveling and set-up/break down of specific event requirements).
• Responsible for supervising rink attendant(s) also assigned to shift and maintaining expectations on facility operations.
• Perform opening and closing operations of the facility where assigned. Maintaining security requirements and acting as key holder.

Qualifications

• Able to maintain good working relationship with co-workers.
• Wear assigned uniform in a professional and well-kept manner.
• Able to follow instructions and operate various related cleaning equipment.
• Certified Ice Technician or any training courses in the CIT program considered an asset.
• Must be accurate and detail oriented.
• Knowledge of basic operational functions, including affiliated roles & responsibilities.
• Valid G Class driver’s licence with a good driving record. Successful candidates will be required to provide a current driver’s abstract prior to their start date to confirm their licence is held in good standing and that it has not been suspended or revoked under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA) or Criminal Code of Canada in the last 5 years. The City of Guelph will take into consideration the number of demerit points and/or nature of the infractions to determine if it meets our requirements.
• Must be able to perform the physical requirements of the position such as standing, walking, lifting, and pushing and pulling.
• Able to understand and comprehend all policies and procedures as they relate to the work being performed.
• Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Installation/maintenance of ice and operation of various models of ice re-surfacing and ice maintenance equipment.
• Customer service experience and/or training required.
• Experience related to the duties listed above, normally acquired through the completion of a Grade 12 Diploma and 6 months - 1 years’ experience in customer service and in a recreation environment operating ice-resurfacer and performing building maintenance. Candidates with equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
• Previous facility experience required.
• Possession of valid Standard First Aid and CPR Certification is an asset.
• Excellent customer service, client relations, interpersonal and communication skills.
