Job Description

Job Overview:
The Sr Construction Manager is responsible for overall project construction execution on projects normally up to 5 million workhours, depending on the scope and constructing method. Responsible for execution of the construction plan at the job site including all construction activities and changes to the plan as required, to meet schedule and cost goals of the project. Responsible for safety, quality, client interface, construction operations, cost, and schedule, which includes the major risk component – labor productivity
Responsibilities
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
  • Ensure Client meets its obligations.
  • Monitor and controls cost, schedule, progress, and productivity including analyzing deviations and taking action to correct negative trends.
  • Controls change/scope creep, ensuring that all scope changes are quickly and properly documented, and that change orders are approved prior to the performance of work.
  • Ensures subordinate personnel receive progressive training to enable them to assume additional responsibilities.
  • Promote an atmosphere of open and honest communication between CB&I and Owner, with the goal of excellence in customer relationships.
  • Coordinate and interface with others as required to execute the construction plan and assure that labor, equipment and materials are available to support the construction effort.
  • Delegate responsibilities and authority to subordinates on the Project Team for the planning and execution of the work.
  • Represent CB&I in its role as a member of the total project team (owner, other contractors and community).
  • Assure that construction work is performed within the budget and schedule constraints of the project.
  • Ensure excellence in relationships between Client and CB&I.
  • Understand contract requirements.
  • Ensure each direct report has a full understanding of the Project Execution Plan and other information pertinent to construction execution, and lead team to deliver a successful project.
  • Develop a construction organizational plan commensurate with the requirements of the Project.
  • Actively participate in development of a construction HSSE culture that makes safety and environmental awareness a natural part of the job.
  • Manage scope of work by identifying change conditions or work outside of scope.
  • Visit sites for pending projects and evaluates site conditions and extraordinary requirements.
  • Provide constructability input during design.
  • Ensure the changes to the contract are handled fairly and that amendments to cost and schedule are executed promptly.
  • Advise management of developments that could affect project profit, schedule, costs, client relations, and interdepartmental or inter-divisional relations.
  • Ensure performance evaluations are conducted on assigned personnel.
  • Ensure that CB&I meet its obligations.
  • Accountable for the functional direction, coordination, and performance of all on-site construction operations and support departments including field management, quality, safety, material management, procurement, construction engineering, human resources, business services, industrial relations, and facility turnover.
  • Manage the contract with Client to:
  • Front line business manager.
  • Maintain a chronological record of the project history by having the minutes of meetings and telephone conversations written. Confirm in writing all significant instructions given to the project team or received from Client.
Qualifications
Essential Qualifications and Education:
  • Engineering Degree preferred, but not required.
  • High focus on ensuring that all aspects of construction are installed correctly and documented accurately.
  • 15 to 20 years construction experience with 10 years management experience
  • Implementation and Management of CB&I procedures and standards.
  • Extensive experience in multi-discipline designs, engineering interface and all phases of on-site construction.
Desired/Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in leadership positions and ability to influence others at a professional level.
  • Advanced MS office skills, specifically with Excel and Access
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, ability to convey complex concepts in a clear manner.
  • Respected for uncompromising integrity, work ethic, and professionalism.
  • Advanced understanding of construction sequencing and construction techniques.
  • Energetic with a positive and enthusiastic disposition, possessing a can-do attitude.
  • Excellent attention to detail and proven ability to meet deadlines, troubleshoot, and resolve issues.
  • Keen understanding of organizational structures for all roles that coincide with WorkFace Planning
  • Implementation and Management of CB&I procedures and standards.
