The Opportunity


This position works out of our Mississauga office in Canada for the Abbott Diabetes Care division. We’re focused on helping people with diabetes manage their health with life-changing products that provide accurate data to drive better-informed decisions. We’re revolutionizing the way people monitor their glucose levels with our new sensing technology.


As the Senior Financial Analyst, you’ll have the chance to play a key role in preparing the Financial Statements, supporting the Finance team with monthly reporting and analysis and contributing to the affiliate’s financial planning and forecasting cycles.


What You’ll Do


  • Perform month-end closing and Balance Sheet Account reconciliation
  • Prepare and submit accurate and timely management financial reports.
  • Overall coordination of the Latest Best Estimate (LBE) forecasting cycles and periodic closing
  • Support different projects and implementations
  • Provide financial support to commercial teams


Month End Closing


  • Prepare journal entries and assist in month end close as needed to ensure proper accounting at the functional and departmental level.
  • Ensures appropriate integrity and reasonableness of financial data as well as compliance with Abbott financial policies and procedures and understanding of GAAP.
  • Prepare month-end financial statements and various reports such as trial balance, balance sheet and income statements.
  • Manage quarterly and annual closing, post/review accruals to ensure the accuracy of Financial Statements.
  • Review monthly forecasts and ensure consistency with actuals. Provide variance analysis commentaries.


Account Reconciliation


  • Perform Balance Sheet Review with management.
  • Assist with the monthly reporting and quarterly planning Cash Flow & balance sheet initiatives, including detailed analysis of assigned Accounts and other key balance sheet and cash flow drivers.
  • Complete Balance Sheet account reconciliation monthly and ensure ending balances are justified and well supported.


Planning and Forecasting


  • Communicate with stakeholders on a regular basis to update forecasts based on the latest changes.
  • Prepare and input P&L and Balance Sheet forecast data into the financial planning system.
  • Analyze detailed financial forecasts incorporating history, trends, and current business/market information.
  • Conduct detailed reviews of actuals vs. benchmark and provide variance analysis commentaries and recommendations to and external stakeholders.
  • Support and organize the Latest Best Estimate (LBE), coordinate process with the local team, consolidate P&L, ensure timely and accurate submissions to Area, Global and Division teams.


Reporting and Analysis


  • Working with other finance teams, assist in preparing monthly management reporting packages that include analysis and key business changes to all departments.
  • Provide accurate and timely financial reporting to local and Area management teams that supports decision-making process.
  • Prepare monthly P&L and Balance Sheet flash reports.
  • Coordinate improvement initiatives with the team which main purpose is to identify efficiencies and effectiveness in processes.


Project implementation


  • Identify and implement opportunities for continued improvement and simplification of financial and business processes.
  • Participate and/or lead implementation of financial projects.


Adhoc reporting/projects


  • Support with adhoc reporting as needed.


Required Qualifications


  • A bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, Business Administration or related field. An Advanced credential, such as an MBA, CPA, CMA, is preferred.
  • Strong experience with SAP ERP system software and Hyperion Planning/Essbase systems
  • Able to prioritize and operate with a sense of urgency when needed, able to prioritize the needs of various internal and external stakeholders.
  • Able to gain extensive knowledge of market landscape, business processes, policies and procedures.
  • Able to operate independently within own scope of responsibility under general supervision.
  • Able to collaborate with cross-functional partners, build strong relationships and influence others.
  • Advanced Microsoft office skills (Excel Macros, VBAs, Power BI, etc.) is preferred.
  • A comprehensive knowledge of balance sheet transactions and their impacts on the income statement is required.
  • A minimum of 5 years performing similar tasks and responsibilities is a must.
  • Confident in presenting to all stakeholders and able to defend their perspective while delivering difficult/unfavorable information in a productive manner.
  • An in-depth knowledge and experience of GAAP
  • Analytically strong and decisive with the ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner.
  • A qualified record of implementing new processes effectively and efficiently.
