Official internal job title: Senior Associate, Data Management
The Senior Associate, Data Management provides support in completing a variety of data functions related to implementing IMCO’s strategic initiatives. As a Data Management representative, the Senior Associate, Data Management will lead the Data Management stream by providing analysis, work effort estimations and input to capacity planning while engaging in the design, development, implementation and facilitation of data mapping, data sourcing workflows, systems integration, and data quality enhancements. In addition, the Senior Associate, Data Management will ensure a seamless transition from project implementation to our Data Management Operations Team.
As a Member of Our Team, You Will be Responsible For:
Working under the direction of the Senior Manager, Data Management, this position is responsible for leading a team of Data Analysts allocated to a specified project, some examples include Risk system integration, Performance measurement analytics, Strategic Asset allocations. The Senior Associate will work with fellow members of the Data Management team, as well as collaborating with IT, Project Management teams and internal stakeholders, to deliver project deliverables
Specific responsibilities include:
- Liaise with business functions to translate business requirements into data specifications.
- Provide input into the development and status of a project plan activities for Data Management responsibilities, while tracking capacity of the Data Management project resources
- Document data specifications and construct sample SQL queries for input to solution implementation.
- Research, source, and map data in support of Investment and operational analytic requirements.
- Develop and execute test cases for data developments and provide input into the overall Test Strategy.
- Document data flows and changes to internal processes, including specifications for integrity checks.
- Document procedures, provide training and support for to transition to the Data Quality Management & Operations team for production handover.
- Build and maintain relationships with external vendors for creating data specifications, integrations, and updates etc., to support our internal stakeholders.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders (e.g., Finance, Investment Risk, Investments departments) on project tasks and ensure that that any project work does not conflict with Operations and other ongoing initiatives.
What do you need to succeed?
- Problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate business requirements into technical specifications and vice versa. Strong understanding of databases and report development concepts, including interdependencies between database tables and attributes.
- Experience with Eagle PACE, Bloomberg, MSCI Risk Manager, and Persefoni would be an asset.
- Working knowledge of business analysis and testing frameworks.
- Strong communication skills, being able to communicate comfortably with both business and technical teams.
- Proficient with MS Suite (Excel, Word, Visio, Azure, Stack), SQL, VBA, Python & other programming languages.
- Strong knowledge of financial instruments with exposure to marketable securities (Fixed Income, Equities), derivatives (TRS, Options), private market investments (Real Estate, Infrastructure, Private Equity).
- Experience with implementing data sourcing, storage and cataloguing changes, with domain knowledge in one or more disciplines of Investment Management, Accounting, Risk, and Performance.
- Post-secondary training in Business or Finance or related experience (5+ years) in the investment industry; additional professional training in financial markets (CFA, FRM, etc.) and/or process improvement and business analysis (Lean, Six Sigma, CBAP) would be an asset.
