Job Description
Category Development at Red Bull is the retail-facing arm of the broader Insights & Category Development team. The Senior Category Development Manager - Impulse will inspire a team to identify Energy Drink growth opportunities, formulate plans to capture opportunities at key retailers and be seen by key retailers as category thought partners - within Energy Drinks and across non-alcoholic beverages.


Leadership across Convenience and Gas National and Regional Accounts – all key growth drivers for Red Bull. Where possible, the Senior Category Development Manager will wire with appropriate levels at these retailers to elevate Energy Drink opportunities and will work alongside the Red Bull sales team to drive key Red Bull sales priorities.


Throughout the internal sales planning process, the Senior Category Development Manager will also provide key input to guide sales strategies, create content for key selling stories and provide ongoing measurement to inform new opportunities.

STRATEGIC CATEGORY EXPERTISE AND THOUGHT LEADERSHIP


Impulse category team leadership and vision, guiding the team toward and through high impact category projects and joint business plans, recommending against Energy and total Non-Alcoholic Beverage opportunities. Build thought leadership that resonates with key retailers and impacts Red Bull across the Impulse channel Leverage our category captain/advisor status in building a strong partnership at key retailers by providing strategic, consultative category guidance to deliver market leading growth for the Energy category. Manage partnership with Red Bull Sales Leaders in the development of strategic plans for category management to capitalize on Sales opportunities Own and lead our category captaincy (and advisor) status and drive best in class category leadership solutions that should include shopper and category insights across assortment, premium shelving and merchandising, pricing and promotions Develop and mobilize Canada’s Category Vision and strategic direction to drive long-term, sustainable growth and credibility in all banners. Presentations and delivery: Build confidence in content and poise in delivery, continuously tailoring insights messages to retail audience.


THE RETAIL CUSTOMER CONSULTANT


Lead the analysis and study of multiple data sources, develop an unassailable level of energy category insight to drive business and category recommendations. Proactively create, develop, and deliver regular category reviews, category management top to top meetings to share plans and strategies with strategic retail partners. Proactively leverage shopper Insights, Category research and loyalty data analysis to deliver a Shopper-led, demand-based shelf and space recommendations with all strategic retailers.


THE IN-STORE SALES DRIVER


Implement category development programs by leading the dialogue with the retail customer to focus on category growth opportunities. Provide leading edge Insights and Category Management solutions; Assortment and SKU optimization, optimum product mix, Development of effective merchandising strategies (shelf, space, etc…), Insights to implement the Long-Term Sales Drivers & Price and promo effectiveness insights and recommendations. Leverage category and shopper expertise to make shelf and space recommendations to improve the Energy Drink Category shopping experience at retailers. Develop, optimize, and maintain planograms for shopability, and optimal capacity; Analyze and communicate planogram changes and performances, while working towards best-in-class shelving principles.


LEADERSHIP, COACHING AND DEVELOPMENT


Coach, educate and motivate direct reports to become future Insights leaders, to increase productivity and responsibility - leveraging CPG industry expertise as well as Red Bull specific programs. Spend adequate time with team in office and field to implement and execute Red Bull standards. Lead team to turn insights into action, develop thought-leading initiatives and educate cross- functional departments on how to capitalize on category opportunities. Your areas of knowledge and expertise


that matter most for this role:


  • Planograms building expertise, JDA Space Planning experience is an asset.
  • Strong relationship builder, retailer relationships as well as sales team partnerships.
  • Bachelor or MS degree in Business, Quantitative Science or related field.
  • Strong joint business planning capabilities with retailers.
  • Broad knowledge of CPG industry sources and uses, vendors and their tools and capabilities including, but not limited to: Syndicated sales data (Nielsen, etc.), shopper panel data (Numerator, Nielsen Homescan, Kantar, etc.), retailers’ sales data (LDIA, Dunnhumby, IRI, Retail Link, SPS, etc..), custom research (Field Agent, etc).
  • In-depth knowledge of the CPG industry and Canadian Retail Industry.
  • 8+ years’ experience in Category Development or Key Account sales in the CPG industry.
  • Fluently Bilingual (English and French) an asset.
  • Highly analytical, organized, and self-motivated individual with the ability to draw insights from multiple complex data sources.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills are required to express analytics and deliver presentations to various levels within the organization and externally to customers.
  • Experience in people management and people development.
