Hays is currently partnered with an award-winning Calgary-based land developer and residential home builder. They have been creating innovative and successful communities across the Greater Calgary Metropolitan Area for almost 30 years. At the present time they are positioned for their next growth phase with a multi-year land base, strong financial resources, and an exceptional management team, with that they are looking to hire a Safety Manager for their builder side.
The Safety Manager will play a crucial role in maintaining a safe and healthy work environment for their construction sites. As the Safety Manager, you will be responsible for developing and implementing safety policies, procedures, and programs, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, conducting regular inspections, and promoting a safety culture throughout the organization.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain accurate safety records, including incident reports, safety training documentation, and safety-related communications.
- Provide guidance and training to employees on safety practices, protocols, and the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Develop and implement comprehensive safety policies and procedures to ensure compliance with local, provincial, and federal regulations.
- Coordinate and conduct safety meetings and training sessions to promote a strong safety culture.
- Liaise with regulatory agencies, external auditors, and insurance providers as necessary.
- Conduct regular inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and ensure adherence to safety standards.
- Stay up to date with industry best practices, regulations, and emerging safety trends, and make recommendations for continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with project managers, site supervisors, and subcontractors to address safety concerns and implement appropriate measures.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, and develop and implement corrective action plans to prevent future occurrences.
Requirements:
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving safety issues.
- Proven ability to develop, implement, and maintain safety programs and procedures.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively train and motivate employees at all levels.
- Strong understanding of construction processes, equipment, and potential hazards.
- In-depth knowledge of local, provincial, and federal safety regulations and standards.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in construction safety management, preferably in residential construction.
- Relevant certifications such as Construction Safety Officer (CSO) or National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) will be considered an asset.
