Job Description
Position Overview
The Department of Psychology in the Faculty of Arts invites applications for a Research Assistant Child Development. This Fixed Term, Recurring Part-time position is for approximately 12 months.(based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.
Reporting to the principal investegator, Director of the Language and Cognitive Development Laboratory the sucessful candidate will complete varied work with moderate to high complexity. The incumbant will be primarily managing databases, recruiting participants, and managing the participant database. The position requires the ability to work flexible hours, such as days, evenings, and the occasional weekend day to accommodate study activities. Overtime is not expected or required. This role will require work under direct supervision of the principal investegator and will work collaboratively with the research team. The stress level of the role is considered to be medium-level. The impact of error is medium-impact as accuracy and privacy of information is involved.
The primary purpose of this position is to organize participant recruitment efforts for developmental psychology researchers in the Department of Psychology, including seeking out new recruitment opportunities, overseeing the recruitment database, training students in the use of the database and recruitment opportunities.
Position Description
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
  • Working in a laboratory space providing research support in the area of early development. This requires working closely with the PIs, team members, and research participants
  • Train students and staff in the use of the recruitment database
  • Develop new recruitment opportunities
  • Oversee completion of projects and tasks with the supervisor
  • Maintain the CHILD group website
  • Coordinate participant recruitment and database management
  • Use social media platforms to recruit participants
  • Determine priorities and deadlines for self and others, and oversee the students, staff, and volunteer who use the database and participate in recruitment opportunities
Qualifications / Requirements:
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including an ability to work in a team environment with research participants and lab associates
  • Intermediate level of expertise with Excel
  • Excellent organizational skills; attention to detail
  • Strong ability to communicate and interact with participants and their families, as well as community organizations in a friendly, respectful, and timely manner
  • High degree of computer literacy (e.g. Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, SPSS, and online research databases)
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • Ability to work collaboratively with undergraduate students, graduate students, research participants and professors
  • Problem-solving and critical thinking skills
  • Knowledge and skills of recruitment and selection practices of research participants
  • Ability to follow specific directions and research protocols
  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in psychology or related field
  • Minimum 1 year experience working in a lab conducting child development or related research
  • Knowledge of child development is an asset
