Job Description
Position Overview
The Department of Psychology in the Faculty of Arts invites applications for a Software Developer. This Fixed Term Recurring Part-time position is for approximately 6 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.
The position reports directly to the Director of the Individual and Team Performance Lab in the Department of Psychology at the University of Calgary. This lab was created in 2011 in order to further knowledge in Industrial/Organizational Psychology, with a special focus on behaviour in student and industry teams.
The job involves development of the new itpmetrics.com website, which is a team assessment and feedback website anticipating approximately 200,000 users in traffic next year. The job also requires that bugs uncovered by various users are resolved quickly and that users are provided with quick responses to their issues. Finally, the position requires further features to create aggregate reporting for data analytics and visualization.
Position Description
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
  • Create coding for customized automated merging of data sets.
  • Test the software to assure quality and usability by coding unit tests and performing manual system tests.
  • Create data visualization tools for reporting and decision making.
  • Maintain and update the architectural diagrams.
  • Upgrade and maintain the landing page.
  • Mentor and train intern web developers.
  • Provide data cleaning and management support to lab researchers.
  • Upgrade the benchmarking analytics.
  • Design, develop, document, and support the a MERN application platform.
  • Learn and use the technologies chosen for developing the product.
  • Create new assessments as appropriate (e.g., intercultural communication, team roles).
  • Support users with login and other technical issues.
  • Maintain compliance with best practices in data security.
Qualifications / Requirements:
  • Proficiency in React, Node.js, Express, Javascript, HTML, CSS, Docker, MongoDB, SQL, CI/CD, and responsive web development.
  • 1+ year using a cloud platform (GCP or DigitalOcean).
  • Solid understanding of software engineering practices and design patterns.
  • 1+ year in a leadership and/or teaching position.
  • Experience with psychometric tests and organizational psychology.
  • Comfortable with git, command line tools and Google Analytics.
  • 1+ year of working remotely and independently, preferably contract work.
  • Strong time management and organizational skill to drive projects to completion is a must.
  • 1+ year of full-stack web application development experience.
  • BSc/BA or Diploma in Computer Science or Web Development.
