About the role

We are seeking a focused and experienced Regional Commercial Underwriting Manager to join our Central Region team. As a key leader within our organization, you will leverage your extensive underwriting background to coach, mentor and guide our underwriting teams, ensuring they effectively implement our established underwriting guidelines, best practices, and policy wordings. Key responsibilities

  • Address any identified complaints in accordance with company policy.
  • Forge robust relationships with internal teams and external stakeholders, continually reinforcing our commitment to excellent customer service.
  • Dedicate time to further enhance personal technical knowledge and niche expertise through networking and engagement with industry resources.
  • Oversee underwriting processes and conduct audits, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Adhere to and operate within the Ecclesiastical framework, proactively identifying and escalating any business risks.
  • Directly coach and mentor underwriting teams, facilitating the consistent implementation of Ecclesiastical's underwriting guidelines, policies, and best practices.
  • Drive underwriting excellence within your team by planning, prioritizing, and managing tasks to meet agreed objectives and SLAs.


Knowledge, skills and experience

  • 10 to 12 years' experience in underwriting, with a significant portion of that in commercial underwriting, including previous leadership or mentorship roles.
  • Proficiency in underwriting tools, systems, and data analysis techniques for risk assessment and to determine appropriate coverage and pricing.
  • Adhere to high ethical standards, industry regulations and guidelines, with a capacity to handle sensitive information discretely.
  • University degree or equivalent insurance experience.
  • Proven experience in applying and implementing underwriting guidelines, best practices, and policy wordings.
  • Thorough understanding of underwriting guidelines, policy wordings, pricing tools, and the regional insurance market.
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Insurance-related certifications such as CIP or FCIP, and preferably additional certifications like CRM.
  • Ability to solve complex underwriting scenarios and adapt to changing business needs and market dynamics.
