The Opportunity:

DOT is seeking an experienced and dynamic professional to join our team as a Project Officer - Climate. This is a full-time position for an initial 1-year contract, with flexible working arrangements and comprehensive benefits.


Reporting to the Director of Programs and Impact, the primary responsibility of this role is to coordinate, track, and support planning, implementation and reporting of a new and innovative youth-led climate change project across a dispersed team in Canada, Lebanon and Tanzania. Additionally, the Project Officer - Climate will contribute to the management of project risk, the development of project management practices and tools, and coordinating the multi-functional project team.


As an ideal candidate for this role, you possess excellent collaboration and organizational skills, strong written and oral communication skills, knowledge and experience in the climate change sector, and the ability to work in a highly dynamic and energetic team. Most importantly, you possess a commitment to social justice and have a genuine desire to learn and support youth globally.


Key areas of responsibility include:


Project Planning, Coordination, and Reporting

  • Liaise with project stakeholders - including staff in Canada, Lebanon and Tanzania - to coordinate the development and submission of project reports and deliverables coordinate the submission and review of work plans in line with agreed upon timelines
  • Organize, facilitate, and document project coordination meetings with project staff
  • Support the development and iteration of project work plans in collaboration with other stakeholders, and in line with approved project proposals
  • Facilitate communications across the project as required in relation to project implementation including but not limited to consultants and country project staff
  • Track project implementation progress against donor approved work plans and flag any issues for the Director of Programs and Impact


Project Implementation

  • Support the organization, facilitation and documentation of co-design activities with key stakeholders and youth
  • Support project stakeholders to capture and disseminate project learnings and best practices as required using a variety of mediums and integrate into organizational learning
  • Contribute to organizational learning, best practice and thought leadership around climate change
  • Maintain the DOT google drives related to project activities. File documents, as well as share relevant and interesting articles, blogs etc.


Other

  • Draft papers and other documents as required
  • Represent DOT at external meetings and events as required
  • Participate in Project Operations team planning and development activities


Qualifications:

  • Strong writing skills with a proven track record of developing quality project reports and documents
  • Self-starter who works with little day-to-day direction
  • Team player with the ability to work in a diverse environment with multiple stakeholders
  • Must have a university degree in international development, environmental science or a related field. A master’s degree is an asset
  • Think critically, creatively and innovatively to bring value across the multiple teams engaging in the project
  • 2 - 4 years experience working on international development projects, experience in Africa and or the Middle East is an asset
  • Manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced and shifting environment
  • Proven track record coordinating projects, particularly multi-country initiatives, or those involving virtual team members
  • Knowledge of global climate change discourse and issues
  • Experience working with programs focused on climate change and/or youth
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, experience working in a cross-cultural environment
