Job Description

The Office of the Sergeant-at-Arms and Corporate Security is currently looking to staff the Security Project Officer position (ADG-D).

The Security Project Officer (SPO) is accountable for managing and coordinating security projects including the security considerations of several medium size construction and refurbishment sub-projects within a program, and/or other internal projects for the Corporate Security Office (CSO), from planning, to close-out, from establishing project requirements to the delivery and acceptance of occupancy or implementation, in accordance with the House Administration project management practices and processes supporting the Corporate Security Office.

The SPO coordinates Counter Technical Intrusion (CTI) operations to assist the Security Project Manager (SPM) with client requests, data analysis, security screenings, and development of policy and operational maintenance plans.

The role requires that the incumbent work onsite in our downtown Ottawa office, and support operational requirements with flexible hours and occasional overtime. Hours of operations may vary between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m., Monday to Friday, with the requirement to work most evenings. The incumbent could be subject to travel throughout Canada.

Candidates must be able to obtain a Top Secret or Secret clearance (Standard on Security Screening- Canada.ca).

The Security Project Management and Technical Operations Team is responsible for managing the House of Commons security requirements for all Long Term Vision and Plan (LTVP) and tenant services projects. Qualifications

Education:

  • Successful completion of post-secondary education with a focus on the following fields: radio frequency, modern physics, electronics and integrated circuits, programming, calculus (differential and multivariate) and machine vision.

Experience:

  • Experience in security project coordination;
  • Experience in assessing issues, problems and requests, asking the right questions to clarify needs and in making recommendations, and in communicating ideas requirements and expectations clearly.
  • Experience in coordinating multiple and sometimes conflicting requirements and priorities, and working with subject matter experts in the fields of architecture, engineering, security, construction and procurement;

Assets:

Experience or formal training in the following fields will be considered assets:

  • Telecommunications with focus on emerging technologies, 802.11ax, 802.11be, 5G, etc.
  • Nondestructive testing including Thermography, Ultrasound testing or portable X-Ray;
  • Computer science - ML, AI, Mathematical Software, Data communications and Networking;
  • Optical waveguides, laser, and optical communications;
  • Wireless communications, signal processing, telecommunications engineering;
