The Shift Manager is responsible for providing leadership and direction for day to day production and staff on the shift and sets the daily goals to ensure all deadlines and milestones are met using the resources available. The Shift Manager ensures all activities are documented, interacts with clients, and maintains appropriate levels of output and profitability. Through their knowledge, experience, and expertise regarding all LDS business lines, they are the resource to all staff to ensure the department’s continuing success and growth. The qualified candidate must be able to work in a demanding fast paced environment while managing multiple deadlines.
The position is also responsible for People Management activities, including but not limited to: assisting in the hiring, coaching, performance management, development, corrective action and termination.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
  • High performance ability in all aspects of printing, mailing and assembly functions within the production environment
  • Complete invoicing and required reports for completed projects
  • Provides customer service to clients including but not limited to: scheduling, job specifications, pricing, and dispute resolution
  • Other duties as required by Manager
  • Perform QC (quality control) on all produced materials for accuracy of completion
  • Meets deadlines by working at a quick and steady pace while maintaining quality/error free work.
  • Troubleshoots problems by problem solving and communicating effectively and promptly to manager
  • Completes all paperwork in a timely, accurate and legible manner by reading and writing in English.
  • Prevents errors by maintaining a safe, clean, and orderly work environment
  • Meets company production standards by ensuring staff achieve the Impressions per Hour (IPH) rate in accordance with standards established.
  • Achieves Time Productive statistics by meeting standards established by the facility.
  • Prepares digital files for print production or lettershop with attention to detail, efficiency and labor effort as necessary
  • Maintains a positive internal working relationship with sales, admin staff and other team members
  • Ensures all activities are documented and maintains appropriate levels of output and profitability
  • Achieves customer satisfaction by setting the goals of labor commitment and completion of projects throughout the production facility
  • Directs and schedules the daily activities of the Service Support team to facilitate timely pick up and delivery of projects
  • Assigns tasks to production staff with the goal of the completion of deadlines, milestones, and quality control as necessary
  • Printing, photocopying, bindery, inspecting, compiling, assembling, and binding documents as necessary.
  • Management and development of production employees by training, coaching, and counseling employees.
  • Maintains optimal machine performance by correcting simple machine problems (clearing jams, refilling toner, replacing machine oil, etc.) and having a working knowledge of machine codes to report in the event of equipment failure.
Qualifications (Education, Experience And Certifications)
  • Prior management experience is required and preferably within Print and Lettershop, Legal Document Services or a legal FM (Ricoh Managed Customer Site)
  • Bachelor degree in related business field or equivalent work experience
  • 3-5 years related experience in production
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Include soft skills, i.e. interpersonal attributes and hard skills, i.e. computer abilities
  • May be required to work outside of regular business hours depending on production and business needs (10%)
  • Working knowledge of common document pre-flighting
  • Superior customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Must be able to perform repetitive work by continuously executing different tasks according to set procedures, sequence or pace while maintaining quality and output standards
  • Must be able to adapt to changing situations and be flexible
  • Has experiential knowledge of specialized equipment such as a production color printer, high volume inserters, paper cutters, paper drills and laminating devices
  • Must be able to work in and direct a team environment by maintaining positive, productive relationships with co-workers, management, sales and production departments
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, most notably Excel and Adobe Acrobat Professional
