Medical Laboratory Technologist I - Preceptor (Open To Current Dynalife And Apl Employees)

Reporting to the Medical Laboratory Technologist II, Assistant Manager, or Manager, this position is responsible for performing a variety of duties including, but not limited to: routine laboratory procedures, preparation of specimens, providing instruction and supervision to MLT students. The position is responsible for performing all MLT I duties within Anatomic Pathology.

Major Functions And Responsibilities

• Ensures annual competencies are completed within specified timelines.
• Files, retrieves and discards specimens/blocks /slides with a high degree of accuracy.
• Performs routine bench duties in accordance with laboratory policies and procedures to ensure a high quality, accurate and timely result.
• Performs other related preceptor duties.
• Provides instruction and collects specimens ensuring sample integrity.
• Assists in the preparation of training materials
• Participates in the training and orientation of students and staff and evaluates their progress.
• Knowledgeable of relevant course materials
• Participates in training and/or education of other students and staff.
• Plans and implements training programs for students.
• Operates, maintains and performs troubleshooting on a variety of laboratory instruments to ensure optimal function.
• Preceptor duties include but are not limited to:
• Recommends and follows up on remedial action
• Maintains, cleans, decontaminates and organizes work areas based on LEAN Six Sigma principles and SOPs.
• Participates in the validation and assessment of procedures and equipment under the direction of the senior techs and other leaders.
• Provides input into the academic and practical proficiency of students
• Performs all quality control and assurance practices and maintains records as required.
• Monitors department supply inventory and acts appropriately to maintain.
• Enters information into the Laboratory Information System and tracking system.
• Maintains awareness and consistently practices all safety precautions and procedures including WHMIS.
• Responds appropriately to non-conforming events and unusual situations. Identifies when to refer more complex issues or problems to the immediate Supervisor.

Required Experience

• Basic experience with LIS and Microsoft computer skills.
• 2 or more years of current experience in Anatomic Pathology, participating in Grossing, Embedding, Microtomy, Cryotomy is required

Minimum Qualifications

• Medical Laboratory Technologist (CSMLS) with current CMLTA registration is required
