Program Overview – Workforce Development, Community Programs


The Community Programs Unit (CPU) brings together employment services, workforce development, settlement and language services, youth services and volunteer & mentorship programs. We provide integrated services to our clients to address the complexities inhibiting employment, settlement and financial wellbeing outcomes more effectively. The Manager of employer engagement is responsible for the strategy, planning and implementation of WoodGreen’s employer engagement strategy, in collaboration with multiple department stakeholders and in partnership with employers.


What You Will Do


  • Lead strategic and operational planning for employer engagement.
  • Create and monitor approaches to ensure outreach and engagement with employers is focused on clear strategic objectives, purposely recruiting high value employer partners within target sectors.
  • Foster and secure employer relationships across multiple levels and sectors to build opportunities for ongoing project partnerships.
  • Create labour market, demand-driven strategies, and pathways to employment for client population-specific groups, in collaboration with population representatives (e.g., client advisory committees, internal stakeholders, external partners).
  • Develop and deliver a work plan to implement best practice approaches to employer engagement.
  • Manage branding, messaging and communication to employers, partnered with WoodGreen’s Marketing and Communication team.
  • Represent the unit on internal and external committees as directed by the supervisor.
  • Contribute to unit planning and evaluation.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with multiple internal stakeholders such as WoodGreen’s Foundation.
  • Oversee professional development for staff.
  • Create dashboards to share and visualize performance data.
  • Select performance measures and targets related to employer activities and outcomes.
  • Ensure data and activity history are complete and up to date in the CRM system.
  • Apply labour market analysis and research to identify trends and opportunities that inform strategy implementation, employer relationship building and outreach objectives.
  • Lead and participate in funding initiatives for employment and skills development projects.
  • Ensure the anti-racism objectives and community development principles of the organization are achieved within the programs.
  • Develop and implement WoodGreen’s trades training employment strategy to include long-term planning.
  • Create a recognition and celebration program for employers for their involvement.
  • Perform other related duties as required from time to time.
  • Create a key account management program with key account managers overseeing the portfolio of interactions.
  • Create a measurement framework for employer engagement in collaboration with WoodGreen’s Business Analytics team and other stakeholders.


What You Bring to the Team
  • 3 + years of experience supervising programs and staff, preferably in a unionized environment.
  • Experience working in employment programs for vulnerable populations
  • 2 years of direct work experience in the employment services sector.
  • Experience in stakeholder relationship, business development and labour market trends.
  • Bachelor’s degree in social services, business or in relevant discipline.

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with a strong attention to detail.
  • Strong computer skills with the ability to create and analyze statistical reports.
  • Strong relationship building and management skills with senior level partners.
  • Direct experience and success in job development and employer engagement within the context of non-profit programming and the ability to apply this expertise in employer engagement and job development in all aspects of the work.
  • Strong critical thinking and able to demonstrate good judgment.
