Job Description

QMUNITY operates on the traditional, ancestral and unceded territories of Indigenous peoples across British Columbia. In particular, QMUNITY offices are located on the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.

About QMUNITY:QMUNITY is BC’s 2SLBGTQIA+ community hub and exists to improve queer, trans, and Two-Spirit lives. We do this in three ways: by supporting individuals, by strengthening our communities, and by leading the way towards legal and lived equality. We operate with 15 staff, and a large pool of volunteers.

Purpose:The Manager, Education and Engagement contributes to the overall success of the organization by effectively managing both Education and Communications initiatives at QMUNITY. Reporting to the Director of Development, you are critical to the development and management of our fee-for-service education program. You will also be responsible for overseeing strategic communications often used as educational tools at QMUNITY. This management position is exempt from the union.

Key Responsibilities:

Education Program (Strategizing and Capacity Building) (50%):

  • Oversee and coordinate the development and delivery of QMUNITY’s 2SLGBTQIA+ inclusivity training modules and workshops
  • Monitor and maintain workshops and presentation delivery schedules, ensuring timely client engagement and efficient use of resources.
  • Customize training content to meet the specific needs of different target audiences, such as educators, organizations, and community groups.
  • Stay updated on current research, best practices, and emerging trends in SOGIESC education and training.
  • Continuously review, update, and enhance training materials and methodologies based on participant feedback, industry trends, and evolving needs.
  • Recruit contract facilitators and foster a collaborative and supportive environment among contract facilitators, encouraging knowledge sharing and peer learning.
  • Develop and deliver comprehensive training curriculums and resources for contract facilitators, ensuring consistent and standardized delivery of training and workshops.
  • Establish and monitor a system of ongoing evaluation to measure impact and effectiveness of training programs, and to inform a quarterly report on program development.

Communications & Engagement (35%):

  • Strategically plan and deliver activations throughout BC that promote and connect communities to QMUNITY’s programs & services; including, but not limited to, attending pride events, forums, and community activities.
  • Manage internal and external communications efforts, including the timely delivery of newsletters, and promotion of programs and services to diverse audiences.
  • Plan and oversee the delivery of awareness campaigns and initiatives to bring forward education around 2SLGBTQIA+ issues to diverse audiences, as well as awareness of QMUNITY.

Advocacy (15%):

  • Work closely with internal teams to ensure that diversity and inclusion principles are integrated into all aspects of the organization’s activities; serve as a resource and provide guidance to colleagues, staff, and volunteers on diversity and inclusion matters, fostering an inclusive and respectful work culture.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and best practices in diversity and inclusion, adapting strategies and initiatives accordingly.
  • Collaborate with partner organizations, community groups, and advocacy networks to amplify efforts in promoting diversity, equality, and inclusion.

Qualifications:

  • Strong knowledge of 2SLGBTQIA+communities and issues; high sense of responsibility and commitment to the mission of QMUNITY
  • Experience working in a not-for-profit and/or community organization an asset
  • Strong problem-solving, decision making skills and conflict resolution
  • Ability to use sound judgment and maintain discretion and confidentiality at all times
  • Ability to do comprehensive risk assessments
  • Excellent leadership and management skills
  • Knowledge around unionized environments is an asset
  • Strong knowledge of educational principles, restorative justice and curriculum development
  • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in education, communications, and/or engagement
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Requirements:

  • Commitment to a high standard of service and an atmosphere of respect and dignity in all aspects of the programs and services for our communities
  • First Aid, CPR and ASIST certification is an asset
  • Criminal records check
  • Valid BC Driver’s License is strongly preferred

Hours of work:

This is a permanent full-time position (40 hours/week). The hours of work are Monday to Friday, 10am to 6pm. Some weekends will be required.

Compensation:

The salary for this position is $72,500 annually, along with a 3-month probationary period. Comprehensive benefits package includes extended health and dental insurance, a supplemental $500/year health & wellness credit provided by QMUNITY, and a generous paid leave/vacation/sick policy, along with the possibility of a pension plan or professional development fund.

Diversity & Values:

QMUNITY is committed to employment equity and prioritizes applications from underrepresented groups including trans and non-binary folk, Indigenous persons, persons of colour, and persons with disabilities. In recognition of structural and systemic barriers to education and employment, we will work with applicants where possible to address gaps in education and/or experience; professional development funding is available on an annual basis. QMUNITY values the experiences and skill sets gained through non-traditional employment, including unpaid and emotional labour, community organizing and mutual aid.
