Manager, Accounting And Compliance

The Manager, Accounting & Compliance is responsible for managing the day to day operations of the Accounting Department as focused on the key areas of accounting, internal controls, payroll/AP, banking, tax, and pension activities of the company. The position is the primary operational contact with the Company's banks and taxation authorities and has responsibility for banking related activities. Significant involvement in preparation of cash flow projections and monitoring and reporting on actual cash flow results. The position develops and implements accounting policies and procedures. Manages any government audits.
The position is also responsible for People Management activities, including but not limited to: hiring, coaching, performance management, development, corrective action and termination.
Responsibilities

• Lead for pension plan financial statement audit, Form 7 filings, and main contact for external auditors;
• Oversee completion of monthly tax provision, corporate tax returns, partnership returns, and non-arm’s length transactions summary;
• Support the day-to-day operations of the Accounting Department;
• Responsible for controls documentation, process narratives, and liaising with the internal audit department;
• Reviewing and implementing process improvements;
• Safeguarding company assets and financial governance;
• Responsible for accurate and timely distribution of year-end payroll documents and related (i.e. T2200 and TP-64);
• Oversight of other tax filings (i.e. GST/HST/QST/PST returns);
• Review and approve monthly journal entries and account reconciliations for various general ledger accounts;
• Ability to reference and apply concepts of Canadian payroll requirements as they relate to employment income, taxable benefits and payroll deductions;
• Other duties as assigned by manager.
• People Management activities, including but not limited to: hiring, coaching, performance management, development, corrective action and termination;
• Administration of travel and expense policy including oversight of expense processing and authorization of payments;
• Oversee daily cash flow reporting as well as cash flow budgeting and reporting;
• Manage tax audits;
• Perform Finance signoff for EFT and Wires;
• Lead year-end taxable benefits process and liaise with the Payroll Processing team;
• Maintaining banking relationships and authorized personnel listings;
• Establish a close working relationship with HR, Payroll, Finance Leadership and other departments;
• Maintaining knowledge of Canadian taxation requirements for corporate income tax, indirect tax, transfer pricing;

Education & Experience

• Professional accounting designation (CPA)
• University Degree in related discipline
• Minimum of 3 years related management and leadership experience
• Minimum of 7 years post qualification experience

• Ability to lead a team of junior and senior accountants - direct workload, meeting deadlines for deliverables, review work for completeness/accuracy, provide coaching/training, etc.
