Laboratory Assistant I - Lab Information Centre

Operating 24/7, the Pre and Post Analytics – Lab Information department plays a key role in the delivery of customer focused laboratory services and is vital to the operation of the laboratory. As a team member in this fast-paced environment, you will utilize skills in data entry, communication and customer service.
Major Functions And Responsibilities

• Answering telephone inquiries and transferring calls
• Phones and faxes result to physicians as required.
• Other Pre and Post Analytics duties as required
• Prioritizes all results and recollection requests to be phoned or faxed out to clients.
• Assisting with the training of staff and students as required
• Switchboard duties during off hours, which includes monitoring a variety of on-call duties for other departments not staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
• Ensures proper documentation of discrepancies.
• Handles enquiries from Specimen Processing staff as well as any enquiries from other departments, Rapid Response Labs, Patient Care Centres and regional clients.
• Provides results, handles complaints and problem-solves through inquiry line.

Required Skills

• Keyboarding skills and basic computer knowledge
• Must be thorough, accurate and detail oriented.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Required Experience
Required Experience

• Current experience working in Specimen Processing/Pre and Post Analytics is an asset
• Minimum 1 year of laboratory experience

Minimum Qualifications

• Successful completion of a recognized Medical Laboratory Assistant training program or equivalent
