Beringia Community Planning Inc. is currently seeking to expand their staff team to include a Junior Community Planner with 1-4 years of experience in Indigenous planning/community development.

Beringia works with both self-governing and non-self governing Indigenous communities and excels in participatory community-based planning where processes are guided by local, cultural protocols and values. Services include comprehensive/ strategic planning, research and decision analysis, communication, facilitation and training. These services have been applied to topics as diverse as comprehensive community planning, land use, governance, health and wellness, infrastructure, sustainability planning and community economic development. Beringia is interested in hiring a community planner to support community planning projects and processes. Duties would include:
- Supporting complex and culturally sensitive professional planning processes
- Updating planning resources/bibliographies and best practices
- Writing and designing innovative, accessible and user-friendly communication tools, maps and reports
- Supporting RFPs or funding applications as needed
- Supporting the designing and facilitation of community engagement processes
- Researching and analyzing planning history, trends and results from community engagement
- Contributing to Beringia’s communications and strategic planning efforts
Experience and Qualifications
Essential:
- Strong organization and time management skills
- Excellent research, problem solving and communication skills
- Group facilitation experience
- Master degree in Community Planning or a related discipline plus 2-5 years of relevant experience
- Strong cultural competency and sensitivity
- Strong interest in working with Indigenous communities
- Familiarity with participatory planning theory and practice
- Proficient at using MS word, excel, PowerPoint and able to create effective visual reports
- Motivated, independent and driven
- Innovative, flexible and adaptable
- Ability and willingness to travel to remote communities as needed
Desirable:
- Experience working with Indigenous communities or related agencies
- Group facilitation experience
- Proficient in Creative Suite- In Design, Illustrator, Photoshop and mapping software
- Certification or eligibility for certification with the Planning Institute of British Columbia/CIP
- Visually and graphically creative
