HCRA holds licensed builders to professional standards, protects the public interest, and enhances consumer confidence in the homebuilding industry in Ontario. In addition, HCRA strives to educate consumers to ensure that they can make informed decisions and understand the benefits of a regulated homebuilding sector. As Ontario’s newest regulator, HCRA is dedicated to providing the highest level of service to everyone they serve.

HCRA provides a flexible, hybrid and collaborative work environment, with an array of benefits as well as considerable time off allowances. Additionally, as a mid-sized organization, team members have direct exposure to senior management on a regular basis and they get the opportunity to work on a range of assignments with significant responsibilities. By joining the HCRA, you'll be a part of the establishment of a growing regulator that is passionate, engaged, forward-thinking and innovative.

The Investigations Officer acts as the first point of contact for illegal building complaints, including gathering information (including past conduct), conducting records checks, and conducting interview of complainants. The Investigations Officer will attend court to swear to court documents, liaison with external prosecutors, and provide support to legal counsel in preparation of investigation files.

You will need to be capable of learning and adapting in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. To thrive in the role, you will need to have experience working with legislation/regulations in a regulatory environment as well as familiarity with or ability to learn related legislation such as the New Home Construction Licensing Act, 2017 and related regulations such as Ontario Building Code Regulation under the Building Code Act, 1992., Criminal Code, Canada Evidence Act and Provincial Offences Act, Ontario New Home Warranties Plan Act. Having good information research aptitude, high-level of self-direction and initiative, strong records management skills, excellent computer skills and knowledge of proceedings in administrative hearings will enable you to hit the ground running and be successful quickly in this role.

Those who have been successful at HCRA are detail oriented with strong organizational skills and self-motivated. Driven individuals with strong communication and conflict resolution skills are critical as stakeholder experience, problem solving, and continuous communication is crucial in our day-to-day operations. The ability to handle multiple simultaneous activities on tight deadlines is a reality and being motivated by providing a fair, safe and effective regulation operation is a key indicator that our organization may be for you.
