The HR Operations Manager provides strategic leadership and advice to all levels of the organization to guide a high performing, values-based culture that supports operational effectiveness and high employee engagement.

The job involves:

  • Responsible for overseeing the development of corporate policies and procedures relating to the Human Resources functions
  • Overseeing investigation processes and act as an investigator regarding complaints, making recommendations for resolution and ensuring compliance
  • Supporting engagement survey action planning, talent development and succession planning initiatives
  • Researching, developing, recommending and implementing Human Resources policies and procedures to ensure compliance with all applicable legislation and ensure communication and consistency of application across the organization to strengthen our compliance culture
  • Advising and assisting Departmental Managers on performance, coaching and discipline to build strong performance
  • Supporting leaders in driving employee engagement, high performance and creating a great place to work
  • Managing all aspects of labour relations including negotiations, collective agreements, grievances, mediation and arbitration hearings and maintain positive relations with the union and associations
  • Contributing to the overall HR strategy, annual work plans and strategic HR initiatives to ensure our employee experience is best in class
  • Providing recommendations on best practices, tools, systems, reporting and benchmarks
  • Flexibility to support a 24/7 operation
  • Developing and facilitating communication strategies, workshops, leadership training and focus groups with employees at all levels

The ideal candidate has:

  • Valid Ontario Driver’s license, Class “G”, with a clean driving record
  • Demonstrated knowledge of, and ability to interpret, all relevant Acts (i.e. employment legislation, Labour Relations Act, Human Rights, WSIB, etc.) and all applicable regulations
  • Certified Human Resources Professional Certificate or Certified Human Resources Leader
  • Minimum of 7 years progressive experience working in HR Operations
  • Collaborative and consultative leadership style
  • College or university degree in Business or Human Resources or equivalent
  • Exceptional leadership, coaching, communication and team-building skills
  • Critical thinking and rational approach to decision making
  • Strong influencer with persuasive, data driven mindset and skilled negotiator
  • A demonstrated commitment to enhancing a safety culture
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and work in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to deal with confidential and sensitive issues
  • Excellent computer skills (Excel, Word, AS400, Access and Time and Attendance system programs)
  • Change management champion who can facilitate positive outcomes effectively
