About the Role

Reporting to the Senior Director, Finance, the Director will oversee the technical accounting function as part of a collaborative team of accounting professionals. Working with members of our global operating platform and senior management, the candidate will be closely involved in the preparation, analysis and presentation of the TSX and NYSE listed financial statements for Brookfield Renewable Partners (BEP).


Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate quarter and yearend audit support and work with the independent auditors to address queries;
  • Provide review and oversight of the company’s derivative and hedging activities;
  • Provide support to the Senior Director for ad-hoc requests.
  • Research and prepare position papers on new accounting standards, corporate policies, and other complex accounting issues;
  • Maintain internal controls related to the above functions to ensure a SOX compliant close process;
  • Perform and/or review analysis under IFRS 9, IFRS 15 and IFRS 16 for various agreements;
  • Undertake and coordinate accounting for M&A transactions, including US GAAP to IFRS differences;


Your Expertise

  • 7 years or more of relevant work experience;
  • Solid analytical abilities, combined with being detail-oriented;
  • Ability to work independently, solve problems and use sound judgment;
  • Strong communication skills (oral and written), bilingualism is considered as an asset;
  • Ability to “think outside the box”, to work in a dynamic, complex, fast paced environment, to adapt quickly and to manage changing priorities;
  • Recognized professional accounting designation (CA/CPA);
  • Understanding of valuation techniques, specifically discounted cash flow;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of IFRS (US GAAP an asset);
  • Good knowledge of Excel, knowledge of IFS and Cognos Controller an asset.
  • Working knowledge of Cognos Controller consolidation software is considered as an asset;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of internal controls (specific SOX experience is considered as an asset);
  • Demonstrated experience in the analysis of consolidated financial results and in the preparation of supporting documents for complex financial statements;
  • Excellent team player;
  • Quality and detail-oriented and able to meet tight deadlines;
  • Experience in working in a growing organization with changing needs and multiple business transactions that have an impact on the consolidation process of the business;
  • Capable of managing difficult and demanding situations;
