Job Description

As the ideal candidate, you are in search of a senior finance/accounting leadership role in which you report directly to the Company’s owners, are a critical member of the Senior Management Team, and are responsible for establishing and ensuring the most “fit-for-purpose” financial and operational systems, practices, and management information required to enable and support the Company’s growth strategies.


Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

-

  • Manage, maintain, and monitor all financial, cost, and operational controls and metrics
  • Lead the preparation of all communications and reporting to investment partners and other key stakeholders
  • Manage bi-weekly payroll and the maintenance of all employee files and records
  • Ensure that the company complies with all legal, tax, audit, and regulatory requirements
  • Contribute to the development of the Company’s strategic plans, as well as the overall management of the Company; actively participate in all management and strategic-planning activities
  • Provide effective leadership, direction, coaching, and mentorship
  • Assist in managing the capital structures of the Company and its related entities, as well as relationships with lenders and other capital providers
  • Assist in establishing appropriate legal and tax plans for the Company and its related entities
  • Lead and support the preparation of all financial statements, tax returns, and quarterly reports (as applicable) for all entities, including corporations and partnerships.
  • Mentor and develop colleagues using a supportive and collaborative approach; assign accountabilities, set objectives, establish priorities, and monitor and evaluate results
  • Establish, track, and analyze relevant KPIs in support of the Company’s strategic objectives
  • Plan, lead, and execute the Company’s budgeting processes; oversee the preparation of monthly and annual budgets, analyzing actual results versus budgeted results
  • Coordinate and lead annual external audits as well as tax audits
  • Ensure the effectiveness of cash management / treasury activities for the Company and all related entities
  • Promote a culture of high-performance, continuous improvement, and commitment to quality
  • Manage and lead a team of Accounting & Finance colleagues:
  • Ensure all tenant leases/abstracts are accurately recorded in accounting systems at all times
  • Manage the Company’s relationships with external accountants, tax advisors, and other service providers and professionals
  • Ensure the appropriateness of the financial operations infrastructure, and all related policies and practices; develop and manage process improvement initiatives, as necessary
  • Direct all financial activities of the Company and 80+ related entities, including accurate, reliable, and timely financial reporting, budgeting/forecasting, and cashflow management
  • Ensure a reliable system of internal controls are in place to provide accurate reporting at all times
  • Review transaction closing binders of property acquisitions and dispositions, ensuring that all transactions are accurately recorded in the books and records of the Company and related entities
  • Assist the Senior Management Team in driving strong, commercially-sound decision-making across the Company; provide strategic input and leadership on capital allocation and investment decisions
  • Assist the Senior Management Team in providing leadership which drives overall strategy, creates alignment, sets clear expectations and accountabilities, instills financial controls and discipline, and elevates the Company to higher levels of performance


Minimum Requirements

All applicants must meet the following minimum criteria

-

  • University degree in Accounting,
  • 10+ years of progressively responsible financial/accounting leadership experience in the real estate, construction and/or development industry
  • Professional CPA designation, CA preferred
  • Strategic thinking with strong and proven business acumen
  • Extensive experience and demonstrated success in leading diverse teams, including the recruitment, coaching, development, and retention of high-potential staff
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills
  • Bilingual (English/French), both written and spoken
  • Extensive experience with budgeting/forecasting, strategic-planning, and cost-control practices
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Proven record of sound judgement, strong integrity, and unwavering moral character
