Job Description
Reporting to the EVP & Chief Medical Executive, the Director, Medical Affairs is responsible for overseeing the strategic direction of the Department of Medical Affairs while fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment with a strong focus on customer service. Key operational deliverables include the credentialing of Professional Staff, physician remuneration, related contracts and reporting requirements, and providing support to physician leaders and medical learners. The Director is responsible for leading and positioning the Medical Affairs team as a resource integral to the success of the professional staff leaders to achieve strategic corporate and operational objectives through initiatives and special projects. This role will work in close collaboration with the Senior Medical Officer and EVP/CME.


This position plays a key role in securing physician engagement and advocacy in support of corporate strategic initiatives, communications and legislative compliance, and providing consultation and guidance to senior medical leaders at HHS. The Director is integral to the sustained effective and collaborative relationship with the McMaster Faculty of Health Sciences medical training programs.


  • Bachelor’s degree in related field (Master’s an asset)
  • Demonstrated conflict resolution skills
  • Minimum 5 years financial experience including budgeting and contract management
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage relationships with multiple internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to influence decision making in a complex environment
  • Demonstrated strategic and decision making abilities coupled with highly developed communication and leadership skills
  • Minimum 10 years of management experience, preferably within an academic health care setting

Unit Summary


Medical Affairs is responsible for supporting the Professional Staff (physicians, dentists and midwives) at Hamilton Health Sciences (HHS), the management of related corporate operations such as the Credentialing and recruitment of professional staff and medical leadership and fostering academic partnerships to ensure supportive training environments for Medical Learners (clinical clerks, residents and fellows). In addition to recruitment it provides support and development of physician leaders, liaison with McMaster University to deal with education issues related to the training of medical learners and supports the Medical Advisory Committee in policy and project related initiatives.
