Job Description

The Executive Director (ED) is responsible for the management and operations of Support Ontario Youth in accordance with its Mission, Vision, and Strategic Objectives. The ED will continue to develop collaborative and strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.


Duties and Responsibilities

The Executive Director will be responsible for the following areas. The scope and complexities of responsibilities may change from time to time depending on the organizations needs


1.Financial Management:

  • Manage the effective application of financial resources and service delivery.
  • Meet aggressive fundraising goals by securing support from foundations, corporations, individual donors, fee-for-service programs, and government funding sources.
  • Lead funding applications and strategy development for Government funding opportunities.
  • Support development and maintenance of recurring revenue opportunities
  • Develop an actional plan for fundraising and managing monthly cash flow.
  • Direct the annual budgeting process with the participation of the senior management staff and in consultation with the Board.
  • Provide timely and accurate reporting to the Board.


2.Board of Directors Support:

  • Inform the Board on all essential matters to support sound policy, decision making and risk mitigation.
  • Provide timely information, assistance, and advice for decision-making.
  • Create business plans for achieving goals and objectives set in collaboration with the Board.
  • Work closely with the Board and committees to assess and address issues affecting the organization.
  • Report on operational plan status (accomplishments and gaps)


3.Program Management:

  • Develop annual work plans with the participation of senior staff members in consultation with the Board; ensures that all service planning is consistent with the mission and strategic direction of the organization.
  • Ensure that all service delivery is compliant with appropriate jurisdictional regulations and legislation.
  • Provide effective leadership and direction to senior management staff in the delivery of program supports and services.


4.Community and Government Relations:

  • Participate in events to increase visibility and market brand awareness while developing strategic partnerships to further expand revenue-generating programs and services.
  • Develop and maintain effective government and community relations with various levels of Government and employer associations that service the skilled trades.
  • Oversee all external communications, serving as the face and spokesperson of the organization.


5.Strategic Planning:

  • Develop operation plans in conjunction with senior staff and communicate to the Board for their input.
  • Track the results and objectives and keep the Board apprised about these matters.
  • Ensure an inclusive planning process and reach out to all internal and external stakeholders on a pro-active basis.
  • Participate in the development of a strategic plan that conveys the organization’s mission, vision, values, goals, and objectives.


6.Human Resources Management:

  • Identify and address staffing requirements for efficient operations.
  • Ensure the organization has progressive and fair HR policies and practices and is compliant with government legislation.
  • Maintain a strong work culture that attracts and retains people while adhering to the organization’s mission.
  • Set the tone and direction for a healthy, positive, collaborative, and values-based work culture.
  • Build and lead effective teams dedicated to fulfilling the organization’s mission through a highly effective communication plan.


7.Risk Management:

  • Communicate with the Board any potential issues that require the Board’s input. This includes HR, Budget, etc.
  • Incorporate risk management principles in all activities at SOY and takes proactive measures to eliminate, reduce and minimize risk issues.
