What is the opportunity?


As Director, Investigations you have overall accountability for the team of Managers & Investigators who are a part of the Investigations Team within RBC’s Global Special Investigation’s Unit (“GSIU”). You will have direct oversight of a team based in Toronto and the Caribbean with a particular focus on cases involving Capital Markets, Wealth Management, Investment & Treasury Services, Dominion Securities, Privileged Investigations both domestic & International, and oversight and management of RBC Caribbean banking investigations.


You effectively manage a professional investigative team whose role is to mitigate financial, reputational, regulatory, and legal risk using established investigative procedures and in accordance with RBC policies. You will share responsibility for all components of the Fraud Management Value Chain with peers and the Managing Director, GSIU.


What will you do?


  • Advise RBC Executive and Senior Management of fraud issues, significant control weaknesses or deficiencies and trends identified during investigations using standardized reporting
  • Maintain a global network of partners in Employee relations, Law group, Compliance, AML, and business units to ensure a consistent approach to the detection and investigation of criminal activity against RBC
  • Manage the specific investigation of large and complex fraud events in partnership with Corporate Investigative Services, Compliance and Law Group with a particular focus on Capital Markets, Wealth management, Investor and Treasury Services, International Investigations and Privileged investigations, and RBC Caribbean banking investigations
  • Co-ordination and motivation of the Investigation Teams into a cohesive, motivated, and satisfied work group through developing mandates, goals and providing assessment of performance and coaching on areas for personal and group development
  • Strategic and tactical leadership of the Special Investigation and Caribbean Investigation Teams, with a particular emphasis on asset recovery and loss prevention as well as criminal prosecution of offenders in appropriate cases


What do you need to succeed?


Must-have


  • Minimum 10 years of experience in financial crime / fraud investigation
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • General knowledge of Canadian Criminal and Civil litigation procedures
  • Knowledge of banking processes
  • University Degree or equivalent experience
  • Proven Leadership skills and Team Management experience
  • Extensive experience in conducting interviews including those suspected of wrongdoing
  • Ability to travel


Nice-to-have


  • Accounting / Forensic accounting knowledge
  • Canadian Securities Course
  • Securities investigation experience
  • CPA, CFE, ACAMS or equivalent designations
