Overview

The objective of this position is to develop and maintain a relationship with the Province and Project Owner. Assist the field crews in work planning, ensure safety and environmental policies are followed, control labour equipment and material costs, and promote the company to potential customers.

Responsibilities

• Provide support to the Operations Manager and General Manager in preparing, and reviewing operating budgets.
• Assist Operations Manager with work planning.
• Work together with Lafarge management team to provide continuous improvement through innovative solutions.
• Ensure Safety and Environmental policies are being developed and followed.
• Work together with the other Edmonton business units to facilitate consistency and efficient allocation of shared resources.
• Provide direct supervision to Operations Coordinator.
• Fills in for Operations Manager when Operations Manager on holidays or when not available.

Safety Responsibilities

• Review hazard assessments, SWP and FLRA
• Identify and address any safety issues encountered
• Participation in safety meetings
• Review audit findings and implement corrective actions
• Being aware of ERP and roles and responsibilities within
• Understand and follow safety rules and policies
• Participation in joint health and safety committee

Dimensions

• Working with a labour force of 30 to 40 employees depending on the season.
• Reports to Operations Manager.
• One direct report

Specific Accountabilities

• Cost control of maintenance contract work, provide Operations Manager with relevant costs and direction.
• Promote business development and growth through private work.
• Review, on a timely basis, production costs and profit reporting.
• Track and manage all bridge, road and appurtenances inspections.
• Create 3 rd party billings and extra work billings on a monthly basis.
• Work with Operations Manager to ensure that specific contract requirements are being met.
• Plan and schedule major maintenance projects in conjunction with Alberta Transportation, City of Edmonton, County of Strathcona and any other affected agency.
• Ensure that employee-training requirements are being met by promoting continuous improvement.
• Respond to public complaints and damage claims.
• Schedule and track field work orders to ensure they are being completed timely and accurately.

Qualifications

• Must be capable to work with minimum supervision
• E.T. ; R.E.T. or P. Eng. designation preferred.
• Must be skilled at handing people.
• Five years in highway maintenance and/or a construction background
